We report often on the latest Starlink and SpaceX news, especially that of interest to RVers. Even if you don’t have Starlink, it’s still an interesting concept, isn’t it?
There are currently more than 2 million Starlink users in the world and 1.3 million of those users are right here in the U.S. That’s a lot of users! Are you one of them?
If you have Starlink currently, are you pleased or displeased with it? If you don’t have Starlink, would you ever consider getting it or are you not interested?
Additionally, if you have installed Starlink, how did you run your router and where (and how) did you mount your Starlink? Inquiring minds want to know… Please leave a comment with your answers. We appreciate it!

If I was full-time or mobile worker, I would consider it. Cellular service works fine for our use.
One of your answer options should be, No/I can’t afford it.
Very happy with Verizon home internet.
We often camp where data via cell service (even with our booster) just isn’t possible so we bought StarLink.
Since we purposely try to put our RV under shade, I don’t mount our dish permanently or temporarily to our coach. Instead, I set the antenna on a small, foldable card table that can be positioned for the least obstructed view of the sky.
We stream Roku TV, local weather channels, “How to” videos, Amazon Locker orders, camp reservations, pick routes, pay bills, FaceTime, and everything you’d normally do online at home. Lastly, not many people realize cell phones can give/receive calls over the StarLink WiFi absent cellular coverage.
My only regret is we didn’t get it sooner.
Absolutely love it. We’re very rural, and the other services we’ve had don’t compare. Our dish is setting on the table on the back deck, and the router is in the back room, where the cable comes in the window. We’ll be mounting it correctly when the weather warms up.
YES, absolutely love Starlink, we have one for home and one for mobile use. Starlink has way out preformed any other service we have tried. We used the Flag Pole Buddy system to
mount in yard. Works great even with high winds.
If you have to have internet anywhere, Starlink is it. But for FAR less money and good internet access in most locations, I am using T-Mobile Home Internet. While initially advertised for a single fixed location, it turned out to work pretty much anywhere there was a T-Mobile signal. I even experimented with driving using an inverter for power. (our self-employed daughter used her laptop in the car on a work project) It worked with the typical signal loss here and there.
I go camping to get away from all that stuff.
Me too…but…I don’t want to be completely cut off from friends and family.
We got Starlink in 2022 when we were traveling in remote areas of the west and found ourselves without cell signal. We use it frequently and get blazing speeds. Very happy with it.
We’re full timers with kids and grandkids that we need to stay in touch with.
That’s exactly why we got it too. We don’t want to be unreachable, but we love to be in remote areas. With Starlink, we are able to make and receive wifi calls when we don’t have a cell signal wherever we are camped.
I have nothing to do with Musk and his businesses.
My feeling as well.
I respect your and Chris O’s choice. Free Market. It is not reciprocal however on Musk’s end if that equation. He has a lot to do with both of you, given it is his rockets that are contracted for with NASA and at least a half dozen of his other of his enterprises are certainly in your life, even if only on the edges. In fact, it is your taxes paying the subsidies for every Tesla sold.
I feel the same about Gates as you feel of Musk but somewhere in the overly connected world, he is in my life too.
Happy trails.
At first we got it for home, horrid cable and surrounded by 120ft Doug Fir so no satellite TV. Just a narrow opening that is sufficient for Starlink. Blazing up and downloads 24hrs / day on our own router. After months at home, took it on the road for 5 months. Loved it even more – streaming TV and WIFI phones everywhere. Having an ongoing issue with the fiber optic connections. Working on it.
Yes, we have it and love it. Boondooking at 10,500’ in CO and was never out of touch with business and family. Very nice that you can “pause” service and not pay the monthly subscription cost when not in use.
Love
Starlink when it works! Unfortunately we are on our second system within 3 months. Our original unit worked for 1 week. This second system is now down and we are waiting for a response from our support request yesterday.
.
This is why I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I keep reading reports like yours Phil.
Had it for a 30 day trial and returned. I felt it was mostly hype and overpriced. The reception was poor around trees and buildings. The speeds were faster than our hotspot but unreliable.
Had starlink at house in rural area. Use it with motorhome when on road works great I have a starlink pole attached to rv ladder in open skies use the stand when we stay where in are trees have always gotten enough service for email text and streaming. Probably 1 of the first to get it I believe we’ve had it for over 4 years used it for work during Covid before I retired.
Forgot we are by Joshua Tree NP and I’m using it currently
Have had fiber optic service at the house since March 2021. Previously (5/17 – 3/21) relied on data for web stuff there. Still rely on cell data via a hot spot in the RV when traveling. So far so good. Do not travel enough or have sufficient data needs to justify Starlink. Safe travels! 🙂
I have Starlink and have been very pleased with the performance. The price, I’m not so pleased about (and I don’t like the owner either!). Starlink is my best and only option where I live other than frustratingly slow and unreliable DSL. By summer, our neighborhood will have fiber internet at half the price and twice the speed. At that time, I will move my Starlink account to Roam and just activate it when we are traveling.
On my RV (5er), I installed a through-the-bulkhead RJ45 (ethernet) connector into the basement and from there, ran a short CAT6 cable to my AV cabinet. I just use the base that came with the Dishy. Never had any signal problems.
Yes, Starlink is a bit pricy. However the results from utilizing it are wonderful. I did have a bit of a problem on my initial set up, but Starlink came through without question. The router was flawed and they sent a new one immediately. Since that time I have never had a problem connecting to the internet. Whatever I want to see or do on the internet I can now do! The coverage is great. Do I recommend it? Well this octogenarian is very happy with his, so, yes!
We have the router on the dinette table and run the cable out thru the window just like the cable for our Dish. Now with Starlink the Dish is gone. Maybe we might run it thru the slide, but it is pretty easy with our bottom opening crank out windows to just bring it in that way. The starlink is just placed on the low stand that comes with the unit and placed where ever it needs to be to get the best signal.
