Do you eat too much of a food you should not be eating?

By Chuck Woodbury
Do you eat food that you know you shouldn’t? Maybe your doctor said to avoid it. Or you just know it’s not good for your health. I eat way too much cheese. And I eat way too much pasta. Both are okay in moderation, but I overdo it.

I could live on spaghetti. I could eat it every night for a month, then have a burrito for my main entree for the next week or two, and then return to spaghetti for another month. And don’t even talk to me about macaroni and cheese! Geez, just thinking about it gets me drooling. I still buy the Kraft stuff in the box.

Sometimes I’ll take a break to have ravioli or lasagna. Heaven help me if I ever end up living in the same house as an Italian chef. I’ll be a blimp in no time.

I’m lucky that I do not have a sweet tooth. I do not crave candy. When I am sitting at my desk, writing, and I feel hungry, I yearn for cheese. It’s for this reason I try not to keep it in my house, which is where I both live and work. I should get myself an office that is a short commute to a refrigerator. That would help.

If I go grocery shopping when I am hungry, there is almost no way I won’t return home with a block of Cheddar cheese and some Wheat Thin crackers. They will be gone in a day. Why do I have no willpower?

What about you? What food (or snack) do you eat that you know darn well you should avoid or at least eat in moderation? Please leave a comment. Come on, fess up. You’re among friends.

Oh, the guy in the photo above is not me. I created him with A.I.

I have fought the Healthy FOOD Battle all my life! Only thing I am addicted to is food. In my Golden Years I’m trying. Now I eat a banana with my cinnamon roll when having my morning coffee.

Mountain Dew, is that a food? I drink two glasses a day, large glasses. Anyone know where I can get it wholesale?

2 cans of Diet Dew a day, on top of two cups of coffee. I’m pretty sure that drinking Dew is as addictive as smoking.

I gave up “full strength” sugared sodas (or ‘pop’ as we call it) about 30 years ago.

Having a stent in me due to heart disease that runs in my family. The cardiologist told me the less ingredients the product has in it, the better the food is for you. I told the cardiologist if we as a nation ate healthier you guys would be out of a job.

Being a diabetic with heart disease I curbed and adjusted my eating habits going from 240 to 165. So it’s a taste here and there that I still enjoy food for all the pleasures it offers.

And don’t get me started on drinking too much of a drink I shouldn’t be drinking!

Said ‘no’. Honestly, the correct answer is ‘rarely’. I don’t like the equivalent of a ‘gut hangover’.

Carbs are my downfall… Doesn’t matter, salty or sweet!

Carbs are my downfall also. I use an app to record my calories and I wish it would differentiate between carbs in fruits and vegetables vs the carbs in pretzels, pasta and chips.

Baby steps is the key. When trying to cut something out of your diet, do it SLOWLY! And take a bite or two once in a while. Moderation.

I used to, but due to health concerns, I had to nearly eliminate all processed foods. Also decrease carb intake. And add healthy fats while eliminating the more unhealthy fats. It’s been 8 months and my bloodwork was amazing this time. So the diet changes work. But I really miss bread and deli meat.

I plead guilty! Sure there are many foods that we enjoy to excess so I try to keep this in mind & slowly reduce my intake of things that while they taste great I should eat less of.

M & M’s when reading this newsletter…. Wonder which I should quit? Well, the newsletter doesn’t add to my weight which is constant at 152 – up from 120 – but that was in hi-school – 1955.

Nope, I’m a type 2 diabetic. I have learned what foods are bad and I do intermittent fasting. My blood sugar is close to normal without taking any meds. Been doing this for about 20 years now. Dr. says I’m in great health.

I live in Louisiana. There is not any food here that we eat that is not good for me. Therefore I cannot eat too much of anything not good for me. On the other hand, I have eaten too much of a food more times than can be counted. If you don’t leave full and a little miserable it wasn’t any good.

Chocolate.. can’t help myself, although I justify dark chocolate as being good for me!

Interesting- at the time I answered this, 69% not only eat foods they should not be eating, they eat too much. At least we know 69% that will never see their 80’s+. This was written by a former cardiovascular technician.

Wore the same size uniform until my late 50’s that I started with in my early 20’s. THEN RETIREMENT! Cancer med’s gifted me a fat tummy. Now that I’m off them, do you think the fat disappeared? Nope! Oh well.

I eat a LOT of ice cream, but I figure if I can eat it it’s not too much. Having survived throat cancer, and lost 80 pounds during treatment, I still have difficulty eating some foods, but ice cream isn’t one of them.

KellyR

I think they changed the food pyramid since grade school, so I don’t know what foods are good and bad anymore. Eating inconveniently breaks up my day and I would do without if I could. However, my wife feeds me a bowl of ice cream every night before I go to bed just to make sure I make it thru the night.

Thank you for the question, RV Travel! Hmm, … eat? Not sure. Drink? Yes, the answer easily is Mountain Dew sodas. Should switch to the zero calorie version, but the taste seems putrid. Oh well. Have a great week and safe travels!

Fortunately, as I age, my body is much more likely to punish me when I do, so it happens less and less often.

My downfall is sweets. I love my cinnamon rolls, cookies and candies. I try to limit myself. At times I’ll go on a binge and other times I won’t eat them or I limit myself.
