Have you canceled a campground reservation in the last 60 days?

It’s the holidays, there’s a new COVID-19 variant spreading around the world, and campgrounds are as crowded as ever. Oh, the joys!

In the past 60 days, have you canceled a campground reservation? If so, have you canceled more than one or just one? Are you thinking about canceling one (or two or three or four)? If you’re willing to share, please leave a comment telling us why you canceled and about your experience canceling (were you charged?). Thanks!

Had to cancel 3 days ahead when I came down with covid (in spite of vax). ICAMPMO
reservation was nice enough to cancel reservation, but also canceled the fee normally
charged for canceling-not expected, but really appreciated -made my recovery much better.

Had to cancel one I made last February (9 months before the Reservation) due to intervening plans that came up a few weeks before our stay.

Coach is in winter storage…. no reservations needed. And why do I have to repeatedly check the “save my data’, “I have read”, and “I agree” boxes over and over? Seems like once a week I have to do this…..isn’t once enough?

I just checked with our IT dude, Kim. He says: “It saves the info via cookie. If they don’t accept our cookies, clear their cookies or use a private incognito browser then they will see this message.” He added that the settings should be stored for 30 days, but if you’re seeing them every week maybe they’re only stored for a week. Sorry for the hassle, Ron. Take care. 🙂 –Diane

Yes. Twice. Due to serious and unexpected health issues. It happens. Both CG managers understood, gave a full refund and were able to re-book the cancelled site.

We had to cut our annual western swing short this year. Had to “reschedule” two KOA reservations, thus avoiding cancellation charges.

First cancellation was due to wife scheduled surgery. She had been waiting on this to be available for over 8 months. Pandemic caused delays. 2nd cancellation was because our pet whelped two weeks before the reservation. Our planned in house sitter cancelled so of course we stayed home to care for the new puppies.

We had to cancel a state park reservation at the last minute due to a medical matter that came to light.

Ask this question again in May, and then August. It would be interesting to see if there’s a seasonal trend going on. Alot of us have winterized for the dark season

I had to cancel 5 or 6 reservations for November and early December due to the border reopening between our two great countries. We are now back on track and planning on leaving for the winter December 7. Fingers crossed that Covid does not stop us this winter!
Stay safe everyone! Masks and vaccine’s will help tremendously!

Ahead of a weekend of football-game tailgating we stay one night in a private campground nearby. Three weeks ago my wife learned that a dear friend had died earlier that day as we were preparing to leave for the campground. Once she confirmed the news, she left to comfort and otherwise assist the family. Meanwhile, I called the campground to cancel our reservations for that night and explain our reasons. The campground did not refund our payment, nor did I expect it because we were cancelling so late, but they did issue a credit for a future one-night stay. We undoubtedly will stay there many times next fall, so the credit will be helpful.

Health issues, non COVID, may cause us to cancel and/or reschedule our reservations at Kartchner Caverns state park in AZ. AZ has a very good reservation system. It’s easy to call a live person and cancel but also get help rescheduling at the same time. Full refund less $5.00 fee if cancelled early enough. Sorry, specifics on it eludes me right now as I’m still waiting for the caffeine to hit.

Reservations made 11 months ago sometimes just don’t work out

As our plans changed and new locations chosen we cancel our old reservations and rebook. In fact the reason why we had to change locations was that a conference was canceled.

I had to cancel our vacation in September when I had to have emergency surgery. All is well and healing fine. 2022 is totally reserved from May through October.
