Self-driving cars and other vehicles (even RVs!) are becoming more and more popular. Maybe you’ve had your own experience where you’re driving down the highway only to look over and see the car next to you driving itself. Maybe the “driver” is even taking a nap!
If you had the chance to ride in a self-driving vehicle for a little joy ride, would you go? If so, would you be excited to try it out or would it take a lot of convincing for you to try? Or would you never, ever hop into one to try?

As I age out of being able to drive, it will be the only way I will be able to travel to town. We are just not there yet.

On our recent trip to San Francisco we used their driverless car system (Waymo) multiple times. It was easy, fun, and safe!
Not a chance. I want to be in control 100 percent. Same as picking my own groceries. I’ll walk the aisles and pick my own produces. It at some point with it refined it might help those that can’t drive or shouldn’t be driving. If you are not driving but have been consuming alcohol or drugs do laws change? Just a thought to ponder.

I steered the antique car at the amusement park before I had a driver license. It ran on a track, so I could have just sat there and it would have gone around the track that constituted the ride. That is as much of a driverless car as I care to experience. So, if those of the future run on tracks to prevent them straying, then I will ride in them; otherwise, probably not. 🙂
I’m usually up for anything, I’m 88 and still ride roller coasters. I would but with the caveat that I could take over if I thought we were in an emergency situation.
I’ve been on dozens, in fact a lot of people have. But they are all on tracks. Many airports and some downtown areas have fully robotic ‘people movers’. They all use sensors and software to avoid a variety of issues. The non-tracked, public road versions are essentially fancier versions. The biggest issue is dodging the non-robotic, human controlled obstacles.
Good grief …. so what do you suppose the ‘driver’ would be doing in the absence of having to drive the car? Phone calls and texting.
If you’re too lazy to drive, call Uber.
I’m not too lazy to drive, I just don’t want to waste my time constantly telling a machine how to get from A to B when I need to, there are much better things to do with that part of my life. (No Uber anywhere near where I live and it would be much more expensive anyway)
After doing that at Disneyland, it was not much fun, no thank you not ever again.

I worked too hard over my life to risk losing it now in a dangerous vehicle with unproven technology.
I think it would be cool to go for a ride (closed course) to see the technology in action but I’d never purchase one.
