Is it fair to say that social media has taken over the world? We think so. Your world? Maybe, maybe not, but certainly the majority of the world.
If you had to go a week without any access to social media, no Facebook, no X (Twitter), no Instagram, no nothin’, could you do it? Would it be easy for you? Hard for you? Could you do it but you wouldn’t want to?

It is interesting that several readers have voted that they have no need for social media when in fact, RV Travel is social media, given that readers can post comments and “debate” other people who have posted. While RV Travel does not have a provision for readers to have a “personalized page” like Facebook, it is technically social media allowing interaction between users and staff.
Our rv household is divided as I would go without no problem but my wife can’t go hrs let alone days without hers.
Now, a week without RVtravel would be tough.
I found that I could not control my access to FB, so the choice was “too much” or “none”. I chose “none”.
This is the point where I am today Gordon! I resisted FB for a few years, thinking it was for busy bodies with nothing to do but show me pics of food and the cookware they just washed! Busybodies and snoopers! Email is fast, low cost and efficient with the ability to express full thot’s and pics. It was getting a bit abused with stupid stuff – but FB et al, have taken over and accepted that role!

I can do without something I don’t use. I have no Social media accounts and have no intention of getting one. Personal in person contact is the only social media I want and need.
I do not equate providing technical assistance or public safety with social media. Keeping up with friends and family is an important social activity. Beyond that, I find it unnecessary and trivial.
I haven’t been on any social media sites since I’ve gone to being a full time RVer. It’s been 3 years now. I don’t miss it at all.
I could do without social media, but not the internet.
I’d be fine without the ‘social’ aspects but I use social media to manage my business.
My I phone isn’t set up for facebook or emails. It has a lot of other features I wish I could eliminate.
We have camped many times without access to social media and cell service, it doesn’t matter at all. If we need to make contact with someone it’s usually just a short drive to get a signal, we often download movies on our tablets to watch if desired but don’t often watch them.
We discovered on our alaska trip last summer that we could thrive (not less survive) many days without social media or TV. Chill, sit in a lawn chair, talk to your neighbor, read a book.
I always say that I barely have enough time for my real friends, why would I waste it on imaginary ones?
Can do without the social aspect. Depending on the time of the month, i need it for my business.

lol. I had the same thought. RV Travel is billed as a newsletter, but the comments effectively turn this website into a form of social media.

You’re very welcome, Diane! Excellent! Ditto for here, upper 50s, lower 60s and sunny. Yes, we’ll be in shape at this rate. Only have a dozen more recently felled trees to clean up. 😉 Just glad to be retired so we have time to get things cleared ahead of mowing season. 🙂
No access to social media…no problem. No access to e-mail…problem. All of our bills come via e-mail. Most are auto-paid thru our checking account but some are not. A week without e-mail would be one thing but anything more than a week would be no bueno.
Agree totally Rich, social media, don’t care. Internet access at least 2 or 3 times a week as I need to keep track of our financial accounts.
I lived 66 years without social media, so I know I’d survive without it now. When I was first introduced to it I considered Facebook a modern day back yard gossip fence, my niece was one of the worst telling about cleaning her house or cooking supper. Twitter now X was so restrictive about what conservatives said but liberals could say anything. TikTok is owned by Chinese communist so whatever you say is automatically viewed and used by them, so be careful you don’t give any family recipes away. Yes what started out to be a good, fun, thing has grown into a monster you need to very careful of. So YES I could do without it. The birthday greetings are handy and inexpensive.
Little different issue, but IMO giving a cell phone to kids is like giving vodka to a alcoholic. Both are incapable of managing it.
I have only Facebook and do go weeks without looking at it. I never post anything so only am looking at what other people post.
I have never used social media and have no desire to take it up. The comment section of this online newsletter is as close as I get to social media.
When Facebook first arrived on the scene almost 20 years ago my wife and I went as far as sending our friends an email very respectfully requesting that any photos of us, even in the background, not be posted . As business people, our social privacy was very important to us. Over the past 2 decades seeing news stories of people being canceled for various reasons over social media posts or pictures, It was a good strategy for us at that time and with very few exceptions it was 90% effective thru those learning years of FB’s power.
Don’t use it, not even when I was self employeed, so I wouldn’t miss it at all. (RV Travel is the exception)
We were completely out of internet communication (including phone) for a week. That was tough because we didn’t expect it. We will be on a 3 week cruise soon w/o internet. It will be interesting…

If you have Verizon and some other cell services, they give you international service. I get 1 day a month with Verizon and on my cruise in the South Pacific last year I could connect when we were on the islands and in Australia. Let me keep in contact with my fur baby sitter.
If as some say,, that RVTravel is social media, I am evidently social just once a day when I sit at my desktop in my shop.

Actually, I need it to keep my two older sisters off my keester. I have a site that is in a black hole and the first time I went there I disappeared from Life 360 and didn’t move for days. They were freaking out that I had been killed, maimed, abducted, etc. When I poked my head up my voicemail and email were full. They were getting ready to call the police, sheriff and WA highway patrol. Now I have to let them know if I will be out of contact AND get in touch with them every other day.
Since my FOO didn’t get a TV till I was 14 I was used to reading books and playing scrabble and Uno. I must admit that weather radios and groups of like minded people on FB are helpful
The key to successful social media usage is learning to just keep on scrolling on by!
