If it’s not too scary of a memory and you’re willing to share, will you tell us about it in the comments under the poll?
Stay safe out there, folks. We care about you and don’t want you reading your favorite RV newsletter from a hospital bed!!

…once at the age of 19, long before RVing..I’m now 83
Actually it was a motorcycle for me.
Three times, First time a 17 year old girl thought 35 was 55 and the red light meant step-on the gas, totaled my Harley and banged me up really bad. Next time, a Semi-trucker lost control on glare ice and drove my Scout II into the concrete barrier on I-94. He just let off the gas without dumping his clutch and the rear tires basically locked up. I had my truck under control by dumping my clutch and was gently applying my brakes. The Scout lived and finished out 400 mile trip minus the passenger door window. Got some plastic in Grand Rapids and Duct Taped it closed. Last Time a Ford Exploder driver thought he could drive in snow like it was July, hit the lady in front of him, spun out.
I was HIT by a car. Does that count?
Is a horse considered an “Recreational Vehicle” according to the poll? If it is then the answer needs to change to yes, once. Yes I had a horse accident in the middle of Montana
In ‘73, in a broadside crash, I was thrown through the windshield of a VW beetle. Head, neck and knee injuries. And a lot of bleeding! A barber ran out and wrapped my scalp back on my head with his linens before the ambulance came.
The car we hit ran a stop sign and of course we weren’t wearing seatbelts! Hey, it was the early 70s.
No and I hope it never happens!!
Nor have I gone slowly to a hospital following an automotive accident. Unless you count my accidently closing a car door on a finger the day before my 9th birthday. The doctor used a splint and tape for my simple break from his office. My dad felt bad the next day as my gift was a new baseball glove – of course for the hand I injured!
Drove myself to the hospital after having a heart attack I thought it was a stomach issue found out after reaching the emergency room and immediately to cardio theater I had a 99.9 blockage. That was 2010 and was lectured on call 911 immediately. So now I’ve aged 14 years from that I use a little more caution.
Wow! We’re glad you survived, Skip! I have a friend (for 60 years) who had a heart attack when driving down the freeway near Seattle on the way to Wintergrass, a Bluegrass Festival, a few years ago. Somehow he made it to the loading dock at the hotel where the festival was. Some of his friends were there, unloading instruments from their vehicles. He walked up to them, said, “I don’t feel so good,” and keeled over, i.e., died. They resuscitated him, he went to the hospital and received a stent, and he’s still going strong. He had been wounded in Vietnam (two tours) and has had lots of physical issues since then, but nothing can keep Jim down. He’s always been an inspiration to me. Have a great day, Skip.🤗 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Nope, but a bike accident (no car involved) – yes.
2 times on a bike, no car involved!
I was hit by a car at a young age and landed on my head. Spent some time in the joint (hospital) after. Lots of time out of school with a head injury. I swear I’m OK now (50+ years later). Honest!
1st time, I was 10 years old n went thru the front windshield of my mother’s car when she hit the breaks unexpectedly. Didn’t have seatbelts at that time. Next time was when I was 18. I pulled into a truckstop n got t boned on the passenger side. Broke my thumb. Twice I’ve been rear ended while stopped (1 kid texting on his phone, 2nd time A guy on dialing his phone) in really scared on highways coming up to construction areas n decreasing speed drastically, n watching those behind me coming too fast.
I had the right-of-way and a car making a left-hand turn hit me in the hip and threw me about 15 feet, I woke up in the emergency room. I can still see that Volvo coming at me in slow motion. I’m sure that has something to do with my arthritis and being hard to walk.
35 years as a Highway Patrolman in CA and never scratched a fender. Good Lord was looking out for me.
Once. My little brother and I were with our maternal grandparents when their car was run off the road in January 1968. Their car had no seatbelts. My grandmother was in tbe hospital for a month with numerous breaks. I also was taken to the hospital in an ambulance because my nose was bleeding, nothing more. Ironically it seems those not taken to the hospital died prematurely. My grandfather had an anuerysm 26 months later, at age 67. My little brother died of an undiagnosed heart problem 15 years later at age 23. Meanwhile my grandmother died 33 years later at age 95 and I’m still alive 56 years later and approximately the same age that my grandfather died.
My own fault coming around a blind corner to see a tremendous number of cars backed up at a red light- about 3 times normal traffic volume. I was one of many to the hospital. I was especially upset because one of the cars contained an infant, the mom very kindly allowed the nurse in the ER to show me the baby and confirmed that it was all right. I drive extra cautiously now.
I was riding my motor scooter (at age 13) and T-boned a car. I was ambulanced to a local hospital with only bruises and a cracked tooth (later removed). A year later when I lobbied my parents to let me buy a car (with my own earned money), they were very agreeable. (In 1948 in California you could get a drivers license when you were 14 to drive to/from work and school.)
