Many people and families have a rule: “No shoes inside the house (or RV)!” And, if you’re not that person or family, you certainly know someone who is.
Do you wear your regular, outside shoes in your RV? Or do you take them off as soon as you get to the door? Maybe you have “inside” shoes or slippers that you wear inside (never outside)? Do you only take your outside shoes off if you’ve been in especially dirty, muddy areas?
You know the drill: After you vote, feel free to leave a comment. Thanks!
Psst: Like the doormat in the photo above? You can find that doormat and several others here.

Most times I go barefoot inside the RV, same inside our home….Besides, if I did wear my outside shoes inside, the wife would be following me around with the vacuum.!
I have inside shoes I take with me and wear inside due to medical issues with my feet. Neuropathy and loss of fat padding on the soles of my feet, can’t lose it around my waist, has made going without shoes too painful.
I have a pair of Crocs to wear outside in muddy conditions. Hose them off and they are clean.
“Always” is one of those absolutes. A goal and not a reality. The vast majority of the time our outside shoes stop just inside the door and we have house shoes. It isn’t just dirt. Many shoes don’t have smooth soles and tend to pick up rocks which can scratch and damage the vinyl flooring. But if I have to run in/out/in/out as I am working on something I may not remove my shoes.
I really dislike changing shoes or putting them back on once I’ve put them on for the day. And, what’s the point if the dogs are going to walk on the floor with moisture or whatever on their feet? Yes, I will respect your request to remove my shoes to enter your house/RV if I have to, but I might not visit as often.
While I take care not to bring dirt, grass or small rocks into our MH if I were to take my shoes off each time I enter our MH I think I would be spending a very significant amount of time each day taking them off & putting them back on!
Only wear the shoes inside when we take the coach out of and place back into winter storage. Bring in and taking bags of food and clothes are the one time we wear the shoes. During the season with only one or two bags to bring in it is easy slip off the shoes at the door, by that time we have the throw rugs down to set them on. We do our first deep cleaning normally the first full day in camp.
I answered yes, but it’s not the complete story We don’t wear shoes in the house at home, and never wore shoes in the ground tents. However, with the popups and now the small TT, we’re in and out much more than with tents. So, we leave shoes on until we’re inside for a while. I do have “door shoes” for the trailer, as I do at each door at home, but with other footwear, it’s just too frustrating to have to tie/untie every time we’re in and out.
I sometimes take my shoes off in the car— as fast as I can get my feet out of them! But my husband will not remove them for anyone, anywhere, unless it is bedtime!
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 If we had no dog, then I would remove my shoes just inside the RV doorway. As is, we have a dog and I tend to change from outside shoes to inside ones unless the outside shoes are “clean,” more or less. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
Shoes off when in house at home. Class B so have to have shoes on to drive. Taking cowboy boots off and on is somewhat hard. However, the wife just got me a pair of those Slip-ins Skechers. WOW what an easy, lazy, comfortable shoe! No sitting down, bending over, tying un-tying. Slip in, slip off, slip in, slip off. Never thought I’d be caught dead in that type of shoe. BUT, when I am dead, I WILL have my boots on.
