Do you buy organic produce?

If you’re standing in the grocery store produce department and you’re looking for lettuce, are you buying organic lettuce or non-organic lettuce?

Of course, organic foods tend to be more expensive, but they lack the pesticides and chemical coatings that non-organic foods have. Organic foods also tend to have less of an environmental impact than non-organic foods; however, both have the same amount of vitamins and nutrients.

If you’re given the choice, do you buy organic foods or non-organic foods? Why, or why not? Are there certain foods you tend to buy organic and others not? Or perhaps your partner prefers organic, and you do not. Please tell us in the poll below. As always, thanks for voting.

We do buy some produce organic because of the herbicides & pesticides used. I’m a retired chemist. Worked for “big chemical” that produced many of those chemicals. I know just how toxic, deadly, and carcinogenic they are plus the precautions required when handling them in a laboratory setting. It’s not that organics are free of harmful chemicals – quite the opposite sometimes. Consuming “organic” (non-big chemical) produce is more like consuming the produce we grew on our small farm as a youth. Truly ignorance is bliss for the majority who don’t know what they’re shoving done their throats and the potential increased risk of cancer they pose to themselves. But hey…eat up.

Shove is kind of dramatic don’t you think. Actually a turn off in phrasing.

Exactly spot on.

“Organic” marketing is a way to increase prices. Clean your produce before consuming and you’re good to go.

Not necessarily…chemicals become infused into the plant material and will not “wash off”.

Organic vs home grown vs store. It all contains chemicals to what point whom knows. Just wash all your produce and enjoy. Remember moderation.

Try living around where corporate farms are and you will see, smell and taste what non-organic garbage is like. I will take home grown, or organic any day over Simplot junk.

I grow my own so I know exactly what chemicals are used—none. When I buy in the store I do not pay the extra for “organic”.

I try to find organic for the “dirty dozen” when I can.

Rarely, because all the carbon tax increases in Canada have made food very expensive. We have to watch our budget, and organic food is too expensive.

Also, if “normal” food is so bad for us, why are life expectancies going up all the time?

“Organic”? Another word for grown in pig manure😜
Yes. I too have many relatives living or have made it over 100 years of age.
mind you they were all non drinkers or smokers.

Only buy organic if there is no other choice and we need that ingredient for a recipe.

I am 74 and have already eaten the stuff that is going to kill me. 26 years in the U.S. Navy and I am sure they didn’t buy the expensive stuff either.

Funny, Ed. That was my first thought as well. I don’t even need a night light to see my way to the bathroom five times a night. The soft glow I give off from all the chemicals I’ve consumed in my life, not to mention contact with lead paint, asbestos, drinking well water right out of the hose, etc., lights my way just fine! 😉😂

I, too, was Navy. Ate things that would kill me before they did. I’m 70.

WE find that “organic” or home grown generally tastes better. We are blessed to be able to pay a bit more for the better tasting produce. Our son and d-i-l raise chickens and the eggs are so much better than factory eggs. When we are on the road we try to find local farmer eggs rather than large producer eggs.

We buy what’s available, eat what’s served and will still outlive our ancestors……

What looks/feels/smells the best on the shelf in the market on the particular day I am buying. Quite simple really.

Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 No, never, well, maybe once when the only carrots in the store were organic. Only then because we had none at home to freeze and give to dog #2 as a treat, or was it #3? Thanks again, have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂

Why pay extra for organic food? They don’t spray chemicals on the crops, thus they become organic.
I have been planting crops since old enough to walk. Even my Grandfather was a farmer and never used pesticides. (He would be 126.) The farm was sold after he passed away and when I moved back to the country, I had half of my 1-acre plowed to plant crops.
People today don’t know how to do this. Lazy: no uneducated.

I said “no” but once I did. The green onions that were organic sat near the regular ones and I picked those by accident. They were filthy and full of gritty soil. I could not get all the dirt off them!

“Organic” this and that is a scam.
