Sure, RVing is like being on vacation; however, it’s still your home with your things… including your bed. Doesn’t everyone get excited to go on vacation and sleep in a nice, fluffy, crispy-clean hotel bed?
Wait, do full-time RVers ever vacation? We may have a poll about that coming up soon…
Anyway, continental breakfasts are fun (even though the food is a little, um, disappointing, shall we say…), and the kids always enjoy the hotel pools and other amenities.
Do you ever stay at a hotel or a motel on a long RV trip? If so, is it just for fun/because you feel like it, or is it usually only when your RV or tow vehicle is in the shop for a repair? Or for another reason? Please feel free to answer those questions in the comments below.

When I pulled my small pop up tent camper with my motorcycle, we would stop at a motel overnight on a long trip. Much more convenient than looking for a campground and setting up and then breaking down in the morning.
Now with my toy hauler, there are very few motel/hotel parking lots that can accommodate a 30 foot long trailer.
Only once when it was below zero in Kansas City on the way to Arizona.
We have stayed in Hotels a few times when daytime temperatures were in 120 range. Does not cool off enough at night. Can’t sleep when it’s that warm.
I answered “no”, since we never have in the almost 10 years with our small TT. We did once when we had a popup, after my husband’s backpack in Grand Canyon. We knew he wouldn’t be out of the Canyon in time to drive home, so we made reservations at a hotel in Flagstaff, Handy for him to get a good shower without feeding the quarter machine. Since we’d had an early season snowstorm, being warm enough in the hotel was a huge bonus after a few nights with lows in the teens in the popup.
Full timers for 8 years and usually 3-4 times a year we take a vacation from the vacation and stay in Airbnb. Usually to larger cities and for 3-4 days. Try not to eat out much even then, but nice change of pace!! Recently we have gone to New Orleans, Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Little Rock.
Haven’t stayed in a motel in 30 years. Our triple slide 40′ mh is roomier than many motel rooms and everything at our fingertips without packing things in and out. No check in and checkout times either depending on where we decide to park.
Only once the first night when we picked up our RV and got a late start.
Why??? My Class A Coach is FAR better than any motel or hotel room and comes better equipped.
As a full-timer, a couple of times when the RV was in for repairs.
When we need to cover many miles in a few days, we will stay in a hotel. Roll in about bed time and then leave early the next morning.
Opposite. When I am in a Hotel all I wish for is to be in the RV. Much more comfortable. Coffee in the morning not $24.00/pot plus tip, better bed, softer sheets, quality towels and in the unlikely event I want a beer….
If I could drive the rig to Hawaii, I would go to Hawaii more often.
Nope, no reason to. Coffee in the morning, beer in the afternoon, and a bourbon rocks in the evening..just saved at least $50.00 -$60.00 right there !

Never! We travel in our coach BECAUSE we hate motels and like to control when, where, and what we eat. While I sometimes miss being able to shower without counting the water usage, having our own bed and kitchen more than compensates for the bathroom.
We like to know who has slept in our bed!
When travelling south in the winter, when it’s too cold to camp.

Used to with a pop-up, the last night of vacation and then the 5th wheel going South for winter when it hadn’t been dewinterized, No reason to now with the coach which has never been winterized.
After my RV was totaled, I still drove it home. Taped up the holes, and drove slow. Had everything in RV, and getting it home was best solution. Insurance was great, watched it towed away, with check in hand.

One night when the rig was in the shop for a new turbo. One night when we took a side trip about 300 miles each direction. Just took our toad, visited friends and spent 1 night in a hotel. That’s it for 11 years with a class A, 15 years with a pop-up.
Had to use a motel once coming home from Desert Hot Spring in 2008. Had the motorhome towed to a repair shop at 10:30 pm. Next morning the technician started the engine. Kept blowing fuses getting home. Ended up the fuel pump wire was shorting on the AC compressor. Wire was replaced and protected. No problems since that.
Never have stayed in a hotel while we have the TT. I’ve made the effort to winter-proof the TT enough to make it through a day or so of sub-freeze conditions as we head to a warmer climate. I know we can make it into the teens.
Not saying it could never happen in the future, but it is certainly not in the plans.
One time while evacuated for a tornado alert in Tennessee. Took our beverages, ordered a pizza and stayed overnight, long after the alert was cleared.
We start late and drive late and do not make reservations. It just all depends upon what is around when we need to drop. Life is not a race, it got me to where I am all too fast already anyway.
