Many RVs these days come with offices. Or, if not an office or a designated desk, a space that with a little DIY work can easily be converted into one.
We see many new RVs that feature desks or other optional features that cater to RVers who work on the road. But many RVers, without dedicated spaces built in, work in areas of the RV that may or may not be totally dedicated to a work space such as a dinette, perhaps. The back of a toy hauler RV can be devoted entirely to a very spacious work area.
Do you use your RV as an office for a job? If yes, do you have a designated desk/workspace, or do you usually just sit at your dinette or in your favorite chair? Maybe you usually work outside at the picnic table?
After you finish voting, please leave a comment. We especially want to hear from you if you’ve converted your RV in any way to make room for a dedicated office/work space. If so, would you (pretty please) email us a photo?
And yes, we’re asking about all jobs here. It could be part-time, too. Or something you do for fun that earns you a little money on the side. Thank you for voting!

I am retired, what would I need an office for? Besides, when I was working I did maintenance and had no need for an office.
I am now retired, but I did have a dedicated work space.
I’m retired from our family business, but managed all technology in the business for 40 years. During the later years I was working and even a few after I retired, I did have office capability that I used in our Class A to stay connected to the business. I worked from a dinette table using a wireless keyboard and mouse, with a Mac Mini mounted in an electronics cabinet, which was connected to a nearby TV for a monitor. The Mac Mini also connected to a VPN for secure Internet connectivity.
Work is another 4 letter word.
Out of the office in 1992. Freedom! Never went, not even for a visit.
I put yes – not for me – but for my wife. She’s been a work-from-home technical editor for over 30 years now. I turned the back bunk room in our Destination Trailer into an office area.
Yes – until I retired. My wife retired two years before I did. Her job was location bound, but mine was 100% remote from an office (provided we were within a hour of an airport). I worked seasonally from the TT. I removed one recliner and with a 20X40 folding table, a bridge, an office chair duplicated my 2 big monitor & 2 laptop office over, under and on this setup. After I retired, the recliner returned. I still have a small setup in a corner of a counter below the TV.
I gave up the nasty habit of working for a living 10 years ago
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 Our current answer is that we do not work from the RV. For most of 2017, our answer would have been that we both work in the vicinity of the dinette of our RV. DW used the computer station embedded into the cabinet including the dinette table while I worked on the end of the table. We lived in our RV for 8+ months while our house was being built on my parents’ farm. In January 2018 that ended as we moved into our house, leaving the RV solely for recreational trips. Thanks again, have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
90% of my work while we travel can be done from my phone but I keep a laptop around for those rare occasions a phone won’t cut it. I usually take 30 dedicated minutes a day for work. DW works 2 or 3 days a month from the RV dinette when we travel and we travel 3-4 months per year and looking to make it 6-8 months in retirement, whenever that should come. Work for me is like a heroin addiction and I am starting to realize that kicking this habit is a tough one. A 30 minute fix everyday just to remain stable.
I have a dedicated work space which I use for personal purposes (emails, searches, reading news articles, etc.) I replaced a twin bed with a desk and office chair.
No work in the RV. I’ve been retired for 12 years
I own a RE-CREATIONAL vehicle, AND I RE-CREATED myself when I retired. By definition, I thought that is what I was supposed to do. Is not, “to recreate”, to re-create one’s self?
