What do you mainly use your RV for? Is it a tool for fun and relaxation, like weekend getaways to state parks or national forests? Maybe you prefer taking scenic routes and enjoying the peaceful serenity of nature on shorter trips. Or perhaps it’s all about exploring new horizons for you—taking road trips to different parts of the country, seeking adventure, and ticking off destinations on your travel bucket list.
Many people pack up their RVs a few times a year to head cross-country and spend quality time with grandkids or other loved ones. Others might use their RVs seasonally, migrating south during the colder months or hitting the road for summer escapes.
But maybe your RV isn’t just for occasional trips—it’s your full-time home. Are you part of the growing community of full-time RVers? People who’ve traded traditional housing for the freedom of the open road? For full-timers, an RV isn’t just a way to travel—it’s a lifestyle, providing a mobile base from which they can explore the country while still enjoying the comforts of home.
We’d love to hear what role your RV plays in your life. Whether you use it for recreation, travel, or as a permanent home, your experience is unique. Please share it with us by voting in the poll below, and feel free to leave a comment afterward to expand on your RV journey! Thank you!

I’m in between. Until now, we used it for recreation – going to the mountains a week at a time. However, this winter we will snowbird, so I guess that means “travel”?
We “travel” to dog trials so we can “recreate” at a dog trial. We take everyone- dogs- so no hotel rooms or house sitters to deal with and get to see our friends.
Selected ‘house’ but that is literally only half the story. We own two TTs. The bigger one is our winter home and stays year-round in the south. The smaller one is for travel (e.g., semi-annual migration) and occasional recreation.
How about all three. We own 3 types of TT’s. Our park model is parked in the Adirondack Park. We use it as a house for 4 months each year. The other two are used for travel and recreation. We travel with our 30 ft bunkhouse to FL for 3-4 months each year. We’ll stay 1-2 months at an RV Park, when it becomes our house. Then there’s the purely Recreational Mini Cargo Camper. We can pack it with 2 ebikes and two 10 ft kayaks and head out for some fun. We call it our “hard sided tent”. We also tow it to/from Upstate NY and use it as our rolling hotel & primitive camping. So for use ALL THREE apply.
We use our travel trailer for recreation while we travel
We use our Class A for travel and we live in it. We will not preeminently parked it.
Sometimes all three depending on the time of year.
Traveling for recreation, and our house for 5 months of the year!
Needed an “all of the above” option today, lol.
This is a tough poll to answer.
We live in our Class A six months out of the year logging about 7500 miles per year to ensure the view out the window isn’t the same. The most we stay anywhere is two weeks.
I guess I’d call that recreation but then, how do I categorize how we use our house?
Being at the house is kind of like “vacation” because I don’t have tanks to drain, solar to set up, traffic and fuel stops. I just piddle around dreaming about draining tanks, adding more solar, dodging traffic and checking my GasBuddy card….
These days we mostly use it to go to dog agility events that are too far for a comfortable “commute”. We try to take a couple short trips just for fun, too.
I answered that it is my house, but really all three apply. We are fulltimers, so it is our house that we travel in.
10 years in the same 5th wheel, Alfa Leisure SeeYa full time. Summer in Northern Nevada and Idaho, winter in Arizona.
Travel and recreation all at the same time.
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 We travel for a few nights each month, usually 12 -14 trips annually. The purpose is to go somewhere and relax, see a few sights (if there are any), and walk the dog a lot. Have a great day and safe travels! 🙂
For much of its early life with us, our coach was a remote office. As I was doing specialty work on racing sloops, and the owners were not in favor of bringing the boat to me, I had to go where they were… I started working out of a small car and then had the insight to press our coach into this service. It sure beat loading all that stuff in the car every day. The great gain was that I now had a meeting room to discuss quotes, a tool crib right there, a bench for working on tactical instruments as well as a restaurant and occasional motel. We still did use her to travel too.
All of the above!
Definitely vacationing in ours. I can’t imagine living full time in one.
I wasn’t sure how to answer since I find recreation in traveling. It’s called “enjoying the journey” which I do but I have a destination in mind.
Full time since April 2017! Our home has camped on the beach of the Arctic Ocean, wintered in Mexico and traveled all over the states and Canada!
Its our house 8 or 9 months of the year and we have a summer home – apartment – in the northeast the rest of the time.
