Do you keep track of your steps with a Fitbit, Apple Watch, or another device? If so, you probably know exactly how far you’ve gone by the end of the day, right down to the mile.
Even if you don’t track it, you might be surprised at how much ground you cover without thinking about it. Walking to the laundry room, heading over to the bathhouse, taking the dog out for a loop, or just strolling around the campground can all add up quickly.
And then there are those days when you know you’ve gone above and beyond. Maybe you hiked a nearby trail, explored a city on foot, or wandered the grocery store aisles longer than you planned. Suddenly, your step count is way higher than usual.
Of course, travel days can be the opposite. You might spend most of your time behind the wheel, with only a few short walks sprinkled in. Those days can make you realize just how much your daily movement varies depending on your schedule.
Some of you like having the accountability of a fitness tracker, while others go by how you feel. Do your legs tell you that you’ve been more active than you thought, or do you sometimes end the day realizing you hardly walked at all?
So, if you had to take a guess—or if you know the number—how many miles do you think you walk in a typical day? Half a mile? Two miles? Four or more? Vote in today’s poll and let us know! Thanks!

Not enough.
Ditto! Most of my daily walking is not pounding pavement but repeated trips up and down stairs in the house, the back & forth mowing the yard, etc. I would like to do more. As I age things are getting clunky, tear, or clog. I need more rest breaks but there are not enough rest stops out there to go the distance.
Per my Fitbit, 10,000 – 15,000 steps. I don’t know how that equates to mileage, so I wouldn’t try to guess.
10,000 steps comes out to approximately 4.4 miles
With that calculation I walk about 2.2 miles each day just doing projects around the shop and house.
My watch tells me I walk between 10k and 25k steps around our house and shop, depending on what project I’m working on.
Being physically handicapped, I am lucky to get 1/2 to 3/4 mile in mostly around the house. Outside, I have to use my Cricket Mini-golf cart.
There is a hiking trail 1/2 mile from my house, I try to walk 3 miles 4 to 5 times a week. I’m on the trail by 6am so I can finish before it gets too hot but with Florida humidity I’m usually soaking wet when done.
I may not walk miles, but I go to the gym almost every day and work out on machines for about an hour and a half.
AM walk before going to work @ Cancer Center, good mental floss before starting the day
Thank you for the question, RV Travel! I said “1-3 miles.” I really have little idea of “typical.” We, especially I, walk much more (3-5 miles?) when traveling in the RV than at home to give dog #3 sufficient exercise to be acceptably sedate when all three of us are inside the RV. If we are home, then we make do with a mile for us and far more for dog #3 as he chases the Chuck-It ball most of the way while we walk. Have a great day and safe travels!
