PURGGO all-natural bamboo charcoal air freshener for cars and RVs—It works!

I was intrigued when the folks at PURGGO first pitched me this all-natural bamboo charcoal car air freshener. I own a few different carbon-filtered smell-proof bags, so I knew this method worked in enclosed confines. However, I was skeptical if it would really filter odors from the air inside a vehicle, let alone an RV.

I wanted to put it to the test. As some of our readers know, besides RV Travel, I also write extensively about cannabis.  So on a recent family visit, I informed my nephew and his wife we had an important job: to hotbox* the car! [*Smoke marijuana in a small, enclosed area.]

They were only too happy to help. We smoked two joints in there with the windows closed and got everything smoky. We then locked up the car with the PURGGO in it and went out to dinner for a couple of hours.

Did the PURGGO natural air freshener work? At that point, kind of. After two hours you could no longer specifically identify a weed smell, but you could tell that somebody had been smoking something in the car. To be sure, it was far, far, FAR less than how we left it, but it was not perfect.

So we went to bed and I checked it out the next morning. The odor was completely gone! Wow!

I wondered how well it would work if I got more PURGGO air fresheners and tried them in my RV. So I put three of them in the living area of my travel trailer, about an 18-feet-in-length enclosed space. It worked equally as well.

How many you would need to cover your rig will depend on its size. These all-natural air fresheners were designed for cars, not RVs. But if you have enough of them in a small enough space, they work anywhere.

I could see this being useful to hang in an RV bathroom. In most cases, one would be enough for this small space. And those who travel with their cat(s) can make good use of the pet-safe PURGGO in the litter box area.

What I especially like about the PURGGO all-natural air freshener

the pet safe purggo all natural air freshener with a cat and with a dog

  • It’s all-natural, no chemicals.
  • Bamboo is a sustainable, environmentally friendly resource.
  • It absorbs moisture as well as odors, a nice bonus as excess moisture is a common RV issue.
  • It’s safe for pets.
  • It lasts for a year or more and you can activate it by exposing it to direct sunlight for an hour every month or two.

What can be improved?

PURGGO makes smaller, shoe-sized versions of this air freshener. It would also be nice if they made larger ones for RVs.

Otherwise, there is nothing to improve. The only “flaw,” and it’s not even that, is that it does take time to filter the odors out of the air. This is not like an air freshener that masks one odor with another. Instead, the bamboo charcoal filters the air and neutralizes the odor entirely. And that takes a little time.

Thank you, Cheri! This might be just the thing for my mother’s house. She is 92-years-of-age and has a dog and cat living with her. Some days the odor that greets me upon entering her house is quite undesirable. I’ll check pricing for this air filter. Thanks again! 🙂

That’s a bit more than I care to pay. If the odors routinely become nauseating, then I know where to find it. At that point it will be worthwhile. Thanks again! 🙂
