RV fire victim battles back to health

Hayle Thompson is an RV fire victim, but she’s not letting the situation overcome her. Last August, Hayle and her four children, ages 1 to 6 years, were trapped in a burning park trailer in a Hurricane, Utah, RV park. With the exits blocked, Hayle broke out a window with a bare hand and passed each of her four boys out to safety. She was the last one out—and doctors doubted she would ever leave the hospital she was flown to.

“Hoped you could do … but never want to”

But late in November, Hayle was making her way back. After two months in a Las Vegas hospital, Hayle was released, and told her story to a Utah media outlet. Looking back on the August 14 fire, and what she had to do to save her children, she’s reflective. “It’s something that you always hoped you could do if you had to, but you never want to,” she said.

RV fire victim looks to return to work

With burns over 40% of her body, and a severed nerve in her hand from breaking the glass out, it’s been a slow recovery. But she’s optimistic and excited about the future. She’s also grateful that many have helped through a GoodFundMe page on the internet. Hayle says she was concerned she’d have a hard time returning to her livelihood, that of a cake decorator. But this RV fire victim is resilient. Hayle says things are looking up, and she hopes to return to that work soon.

Fire officials still haven’t figured out the cause of the fire.

Wow! What a courageous woman, person! I cannot imagine what she went through. My eyes are filled with tears as I read this and tried to reflect on what she and her children went through. One of my cousins’ two sisters and mother are buried nearby because of a housefire sixty years ago. Her mother saved her, went back into the burning house for her other daughters, and no one else came out. It takes a deep, abiding love for a mother, a parent to save their children at the risk of their own life

That was the day I went to the dentist for a hygienist appointment. On the way there a major street was closed off cause a pickup went into oncoming traffic and violently hit another vehicle head on. When I saw the hygienist we shared news. Mine about the accident that had just occurred and she about her hearing fire trucks in the middle of the night and driving out her street in that RV Park and seeing the burnt RV. A bit later after seeing both stories in the local news reports I called her to let her know, but she had read it already.
