She writes, “Our water check valve went bad! I had no idea what or where that was. I do now—and I have a spare!” Learn more about this small, inexpensive gadget and why it is so essential here.
Quick tip
Keeping your distance on the highway
“I try to leave a healthy distance between me and the vehicle in front of me, and especially when driving my motorhome. The problem with that is when you leave a large gap, someone will always try to fill it and there goes your gap. The faster you go, the more apt this is to happen. So, with the motorhome, I find I can maintain this distance better when I’m traveling pretty much the same speed as the big rig tractor trailers and the higher-speed vehicles will pass up the gap.” Thanks, Ron!

Trivia
In 1845, Congress designated the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November as Election Day in the U.S. The reason? Tuesdays were chosen so voters could travel to polling locations without interfering with the Sabbath, and Wednesday was often market day for farmers. November was ideal because the harvest was finished, and winter weather hadn’t fully set in, making travel easier. So, the Tuesday timing we follow today is rooted in the rhythms of 19th-century rural life!

Quick Tip – I drive mostly 55mph on all freeways in the very right lane. It is well above the minimum speed requirement, so I am not breaking any laws. Truckers and everyone else who want to drive faster including those that are always breaking the speed laws are welcome to pass me anytime they want. On two lane roads, I will pull over once there are 4-5 vehicles backed up behind me. I never have to worry about not having enough buffer between me and the vehicle in front except for those impatient drivers who pass me going 1000 mph then slam on the brakes to exit immediately.
Happened to me more than once. And some barely had enough room to pull in front of me to get to the exit.
Obviously the Quick Tip is old. My ST tires are speed rated for 65mph – – my standard max speed is 63mph. Semis frequently blow past me on my left.
Driving faster than a semi is easier than having a semi drive faster than me. When I am at 63 and the semi is doing 70+, the approaching bow wave pushes me right, then as the cab of the semi passes, the vacuum pulls me left (toward the semi), then I get the big air sworles as the semi pulls ahead. We stay off Interstates as much as possible.
Like Dr4Film, we also drive 55 mph on the interstates in our motorhome. I car dolly doesn’t recommend going any faster and we don’t like the way the motorhome handles at higher speeds. We stay in the right lane as much as we can. When not on interstates we try whenever possible to pull off when we have a line behind us. Sometimes that’s not possible for many miles. It was to do a quick pull off before we started towing a car behind us. We now need a longer space and more advanced notice of a pull off area.
Harper I’m with you I want to be in the water too, but I’d like it to be a bit warmer out. It looks a bit chilly. She is beautiful. Keep on camping!
Laugh of the day is priceless. Plus he is probably more intelligent than most politicians.
As to Leave here with a laugh, Google says: “Dogs have been elected mayors in multiple locations, such as Max the First, the first dog mayor of the Californian town of Idyllwild, and Snoopy, who was elected mayor of a trailer park in Surrey, B.C.
I left my state right after my mother died and never looked back.
I have had a couple in South Dakota complain to the Park Ranger that my trailer was “too shiny”, so they moved to another site. I have an Airstream.
Hmmm. I’ve never heard that one before.🙄🤣 Have a good night, Donald. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
No, but use of excessive outdoor lighting all night is a good reason!
Common sense and courtesy should prevail.
Why do people leave the “aircraft landing lights”, nose or strip lights on all night?
I can understand that, Bob. I’ve just never heard anyone complain (at least in our comments) about a trailer being “too shiny.” Have a great day. 😀 –Diane
