Do you think you’ll ever move to a different state from where you currently live?

This question is not for mobile full-time RVers (unless you live in your RV in one place, like on a plot of land), but for those who own or rent a home, apartment, or other residence in one state.

Do you think you’ll ever move to a different state from where you currently live? If so, do you have set plans to do so, or is it just something you expect will happen sometime in the future? Or, do you know for a fact that you’ll never move to a new state?

There are many factors that can influence a decision to move. Some people look to other states for a different climate, better job opportunities, or to be closer to family.

Maybe you return to the same state to camp every year, and you’re considering a permanent base there…

Others may want to leave their current state due to rising costs of living or for the chance to explore a new lifestyle altogether. For some, it’s a firm “no” due to local ties or a strong sense of belonging in their current community. It could be because of health and medical reasons, too.

After you vote in today’s poll, please feel free to leave a comment and explain your answer. Are you set on staying put, or do you dream about making a big move someday? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

RVers, if you see purple paint on trees, stay away

I’d love to see Maryland (where I was born & raised) in my rear view mirror for the last time, but as I enter my later 70’s, the odds are slim.

At the most, I will move about 45 miles away where my son lives to make up for the 20 years he spent with us. Turn about is fair play.

An option should have been if you recently did move to another state. We did in 2020 from Maryland to South Carolina and have no regrets.

I should have moved to another state when I retired. To many people in NEPA anymore. property taxes are high and politicians are crooked. Many end up in Jail. Too old to move.

Kids and grandkids live in another state far from us. As we age further into our 80s, we might make the move closer to them.

We have property in North Central MN which is our summer abode. Our daughter and her family live in Shreveport, LA. She’s been actively looking for a year around place for us in Louisiana closer to them. So, sometime in the next 5 years that’s where we’ll be. We are fulltimers.

No. I think the thought of moving to a warmer once sounded great but age is catching up. And all the stuff of what would go and what gets given or toss would be a little much. Then add all our children and grand children live within a 30 mile radius. So I’ll complain about the cold, leaf raking and plowing snow but I’m in my comfort zone. So I’m staying put.

I voted Yes, probably because it depends on many factors. My hubby is satisfied where our home base is. I would be happy in an area with mountains in the background. I am hoping that as we take RV trips around the US, he will find a spot that we both can love.

We live in Washington State, we are about to be taxed out as we are retired. Hate to move too far from family, but this state is getting ridiculous.

Same here in California.

I voted I don’t know as I’m perfectly satisfied with the state I’m living in now; however, I’m 81 (almost 82) and while I’m in good health now and capable of taking care of myself, I’m not sure what the future holds for me health wise. All my kids and grandkids live in a different state than mine and there might come a day where I’ll need to be with one of them.

When we retired, we sold almost everything and moved into our new to us RV and hit the road for 8 wonderful years. We knew we would never move back to So. Calif. but we also knew that at some point we would slow down and would want, at least a “home base” again. Having lived in an area with lovely weather for so many years, it was tough to replace. Our family is all spread out across the US. so that wasn’t a factor. We ended up in AZ for a variety of reasons and love it. It will be our last home.

Unfortunately, California is going to the dogs, more precisely, anybody rich or not supposed to be here. The Governor is waging a war on middle class. So we already have a house waiting near Lake Tahoe, in NEVADA. We’ll come visit, but they won’t tax us anymore.

We left Massachusetts 6yrs ago for SW Arizona. We go back to visit family and friends. And we love seeing it in the rear view mirrors when we leave. And when we see the Az. State line we know we’re home.

We’re currently looking around. We checked out southern Oregon a couple of weeks ago, and will probably look at western Nevada near and around the Tahoe area next, and then possibly the eastern Arizona area.
Unfortunately you just cannot beat the weather in the San Diego area where we have both been our entire lives..

We did plan a move after retirement because we hate the cold (we live in Montana). Then my husband had a heart attack. The medical teams took great care of him & my family took great care of me. It was then I realized as we get older being close to family is so important. Not sure what I would have done without my girls. We will just try to escape the coldest part of the winter by visiting warmer areas & yes I realize health scare can come up while we are on the road too. Oh, hubby is just fine now.

We moved to a different state 56 years ago – IL to FL. Kids are here and I find we need them more every year because they can still bend over and pick up stuff. The next hurricane could possibly blow us to Kansas with Dorthey and Toto. Other than that we will end up being moved back to another state to be with our Headstone.

Without question, we will be leaving New York ASAP. Especially now due to the “Mamdani Effect”. Unfortunately, with over a million NYC residents planning to do the same, real estate values in tax friendly states like TN, TX, FL, or even NV are going to continue soaring due to the Blue Exodus of Cali, Illinois, and NY.

We have already started the process…NY State and all of its dysfunction will be in the rearview mirror soon. Bought some dirt outside of Greenville SC in January in the blue ridge mountains, house closed at end of May. Working for about 17 months more before we fly the coop of NY.

My answer to moving was No. My family has been in the same town since the 1700’s.
