Safety recall: Forest River RVs linked to sewer gas vent issues

The company thought what was a “one-off” problem turned out to be nearly 300 RVs with a missing anti-siphon vent. Now Forest River is calling the rigs back because of a smelly problem. Sewer gas could creep into these travel trailers.

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Catalina and 2025 Aurora travel trailers. The washer preparation area may not have an anti-siphon vent installed, allowing sewer gas to enter the vehicle.

Sewer gas entering the vehicle increases the risk of injury. Potentially 272 RVs may be affected.

Sewer gas recall remedy

Dealers will install an anti-siphon vent, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 27, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at (574) 825-4995. Forest River’s number for this recall is 103-1854.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to nhtsa.gov.

Stinky problem not a “one-off”

On September 9, 2024, Forest River’s Pre-Delivery Inspection plant found that a model did not have an anti-siphon vent installed in the washer prep area. During the time of the audit, this was believed to be a “one-off”.

On October 9, 2024, during a routine Standards Manager Inspection of the plant, the Standards Manager found the manufacturing plant had more than the single unit affected.

The same day Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance was contacted by the Standards Manager. A research item was opened into the concern.

On October 15, 2024, it was discovered that manufacturing had been installing the washer prep without the anti-siphon vent consistently. On October 18, 2024, Forest River’s Corporate Committee voted to recall.

It should be easy to find out who did not do his/her job.

We have a 2022 keystone fuzion 373 TH.. and found that all the vents under our solar panel were missing vent syphons. Talk about going crazy trying to find out why we had smell issues.. constant backflushing and draining tanks.. honestly didn’t have smell issues until we had to deal with the texas summer heat.. but once we realized the vents under solar panel were open. My husband fixed it! No issues since

FR – Forever Refusing to own up to their cheap manufacturing practices. Like our 2024 FR Coachmen Catalina, which came equipped with all the sawdust and wood chunks stuffed into the furnace cabinet. We discoved this when we first fired up the furnace smoke came pouring out of the registers. Hmmmm? The Mobile RV tech found the furnace cabinet and furnace heat exchange tubes packed with sawdust. I later found chunks of wood and sawdust down in the furnace ducts. And FR Coachmen “Customer Service”: OH that’s just a minor warranty repair issue. Well yes, unless it caused a sawdust explosion and fire. FR – Forever Refusing to take ownership of their cheap manufacturing practices.

Thank you for the alert, Russ and Tina, particularly given the long wait until notification letters get sent! Have a great week and safe travels!
