More than four-and-a-half million subscribers to Starlink make for a deep pond for phishing schemers. Now SpaceX is warning their customers that these crooked anglers are targeting subscribers with emails and texts seemingly coming from the big internet company. Here’s what the tipoffs are for the Starlink scam.
Official statements from the company regarding the Starlink scam
“If you receive an email or text requesting your Starlink account email, phone number, password, or payment details, it’s likely not from Starlink,” says a company support document. The warning also implies that scams might also come in the form of phone calls.
“Do not trust anybody who tries to sell you a prepaid Starlink bundle over the phone,” the company wrote. “Starlink does not sell prepaid multi-month service plans over the phone or through external websites.”
Starlink users have reported other twists on the scam. Emails are being sent from “Starlink LLC” or “StarlinkService,” neither of which is a legitimate Starlink address. SpaceX’s support document advises customers that authentic Starlink emails will only come from the “@starlink.com” email domain, without any variations.
What to watch out for
“We’ll never ask you to share your personal information in a text or email or over the phone,” the support document adds. “All information required for your Starlink account should only be entered at the official starlink.com website or official iOS and Android applications.”
The document also says, “If you receive an email or text requesting your Starlink account email, phone number, password, or payment details, it’s likely not from Starlink. Here are some tips to help recognize phishing messages and other scams to keep your account secure.”
How to tell if a message is from Starlink
Authentic emails will come from the “@starlink.com” email domain without any variations. If the sender’s email address comes from anything other than “@starlink.com”, it is a scam.
“All information required for your Starlink account should only be entered at the official starlink.com website or official iOS and Android applications,” Starlink officially states. “This includes:
- Credit or debit card numbers. Starlink never requires your 4 digit debit card PIN number.
- Bank account details.
- Starlink login information.
- Social Security number or sensitive personal information.
- We’ll never ask for payment through a 3rd party vendor or website.”

Just a guess but maybe it is Internet connectivity….. anywhere and everywhere that the sky is in view. Top of mountain or the bottom of a valley. Middle of the nowhere in the wilderness or downtown LA. Not sure JB actually travels anymore though so you could be right, possibly no loss by not having it.

I have never been more inclined to purchase some Musk related products. Starlink as a small thank you for the time and treasure he is investing and losing as a result of his selfless act of helping balance the budget and rescue the stranded astronauts thanks to Joe, NASA and BOEING.
I have never really had a desire to own a TESLA but it is something I would consider now. Maybe 2 or 3, I know my daughter wants one and the other could be a good run around car for my wife. I need to research them a little more as it has never really been a consideration, until now.
