2024 Taylor Coach Lil El 8’ rear door travel trailer—The ‘Smart car’ of RVs

In the video above, we join Brad Taylor from Taylor Coach, a small Canadian company producing custom-built RVs, for a walk-through tour of the company’s smallest travel trailer, the uber-tiny 2024 Taylor Coach Lil El. To me, its sawed-off look seems like the travel trailer equivalent of a Smart car. This particular trailer was custom-built to a customer’s specifications.

Taylor Coach has nicknamed this 8-foot-long trailer the “motel room on wheels,” and it certainly is a better option to my mind than most low-cost motel rooms these days (which are no longer low cost at all). It sure beats a tent, too!

With a dry gross weight of only 750 pounds, the Taylor Coach Lil El can be towed by almost anything (except possibly the aforementioned Smart car).

The trailer in the video does not have a front window but one is offered as an option. It also has optional solar.

Inside you have the option of turning the overhead storage cabinets into a bunk, rated for 200 pounds, for additional sleeping. Under this is a dinette, which, of course, also converts to a bed. While the trailer sleeps four, I can’t imagine having four people in here at one time. I suspect most people will use the bunk as cabinet space.

Next to the dinette is a small lift-up table where you could put a portable cooktop or use it for general counter space. This trailer does not have a microwave, but that is an option. I was surprised to find a large 5.5-cubic-foot gas electric fridge inside!

There is storage for a portable toilet. I was also surprised there is even a small exterior storage compartment.

More nice features of the 2024 Taylor Coach Lil El

  • Box steel frame
  • 20-lb. propane tank
  • Manual leveling jacks
  • Ducted heat
  • Hand-tuck fiberglass insulation
  • Carbon monoxide detector
  • Maxxfan vent

What’s not to like?

Everything about this trailer is tiny, including the wheels. I’m not sure how I feel about those.

There is no running water at all, no sink, no shower, not even an outdoor shower. This, for me, would be a deal breaker. (Remember, this was custom-built to a customer’s specs.) However, Taylor Coach has a slightly larger 10’ trailer that does have these options. If it were me, I would opt for that one.

Funny. Taylor Coach has nicknamed this 8-foot-long trailer the “motel room on wheels”. Frankly, every motel I’ve ever stayed in had bathrooms bigger than this!

Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 This is a remarkable RV! 🙂 It is far too small for me, let alone DW, dog #3, and me. Still, it is amazing to see all they did within such a small footprint! Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂

I would like to.
See, Wanda had a full size bed and that was a bed and a shower. It would have to be a little bit bigger but something small like what you have here just the idea

Wow ! this one may be for us except I have no idea what it looks like. A floor plan at minimum would have been great.
