Trailer flips over on highway: dash cam captures it

If you own a travel trailer, watching this video might hurt. Motorists traveling behind a travel trailer watch in horror as the RV gets slammed by a gust of wind and flips on its side out of control, whipping its tow vehicle 180 degrees. The message here: If the wind is strong, pull over and wait for it to calm. And the other message: Never, ever, allow passengers to travel in your trailer (or other towable).

The other take away is just because you have a dual wheel truck it does not mean you can ignore using a proper hitch system. The trailer was towed just sitting on the ball. With weight distribution and sway controls this would have been far less likely to occur.

I agree. Kinda of foolish to have a rig of that size and no WDH.

Unfortunately, this video is 3 years OLD, once again!

As is the date on the article, but it doesn’t negate the important message of the video. Im sure you can scour YouTube and find a more recent one, if you so desire.

Date doesn’t effect the lesson. Still a good example of what can happen in high winds.

The date of the video has come up. That’s as dumb as driving in unsafe conditions with inadequate equipment and at the crazy speeds people do. What amazes me is that more do not suffer what this person did with the dually towing the holiday trailer n the video.

After 50+ years on the road and a lifetime in the collision repair biz, I could write a very large book on the stupidity I’ve been witness to in real time and that gleaned from those darkening my doorway at the shop after the fact – if they survived.

Regardless of the fact that the video is 3 yrs old, the fact is people still travel in unsafe conditions overweight, or unsafe speeds. These videos are just a reminder to not travel in unsafe conditions and don’t speed.

Another sad point is how people just drive on by. The truck directly behind stopped momentarily but did not bother to stop and see if they could help. The guys who stopped was just trying to get more video. Sad.
