In the video below, Steve Wallis of Camping with Steve (more than 1.5M subscribers and 265M views!) takes us on a Canadian voyage in his floating RV.
This is the second wild and wacky RV video from Steve, whose motto is “always be camping,” we have presented. The first was how he disguised his stealth camper as a truck filled with yard waste.
The video begins with Steve unloading the pontoon platform made from four 50-gallon drums on which his tiny RV will float.
The DIY camper is a lightweight model he built to haul with his bicycle. The platform sat in the water at more or less the perfect height for Steve to wheel his tiny homemade camper onto it before bolting it down. Steve admits the setup is “extremely sketchy,” so don’t try this at home, kids.
Steve outfitted his floating platform with a small motor, so once everything was attached, he set off across the lake toward a market for supplies. In the video, we travel with him as he navigates the shallow areas and tries to avoid wakes.
Next, he found a quiet, out-of-the-way spot to set up camp and do a little fishing. He did not catch anything, but he had supplies to make a slow-cooker dinner.
We spend the night on the lake. During the video, Steve shares the gear and gadgets he takes along and the safety precautions he took. Steve’s floating RV is basic but comfortable.

I always wanted something like this ever since Huey, Louie, and Dewey had one in the comic books. Best I could do was two inner tubes and a piece of wide wood between them. Not the same!
