Just because you live in a van does not mean it needs to lack personality, as the video below from New Jersey Outdoor Adventures illustrates. In it, we get a tour of Anthony’s unique camper van build that he calls the Hobbit Van.
When creating his camper vans, Anthony says he tries to ride the line between playful and professional. He tries to create something magical but not tacky. As he sells his creations after a short time living in them and testing them out, he has to make something people will want to buy.
The Hobbit camper van, with all the comforts of home in an old-world, cozy, wooden setting, is an excellent example of one of Anthony’s practical RV art projects.
Anthony’s enchanting Hobbit Van has a rear bath, a large kitchen, and a Murphy bed. While many vans have those, the build surrounding these elements makes the Hobbit van unique.
A 2023 Promaster 3500 van serves as the Hobbit van’s base. But from there, you’ll find all manner of themed details and accessories, such as the outdoor leaded glass lighting and rich walnut-framed interior components. Lighting is crucially important to Anthony; therefore, everything in the van is on dimmer switches so that it can adjust to just the right level of light for the time and circumstances.
Decorative “epoxy bars” with dried botanicals embedded bring more natural elements inside and provide lighting. The wood theme carries through to the kitchen, down to the butcher block countertop and wooden dishware.
Beyond the Middle Earth aesthetics, the van contains a sophisticated off-grid electrical system. More modern-day features include:
• A Bluetooth projection TV
• Water heater
• Water filtration system
• Oven and 3-burner stove
• Refrigerator and freezer
• Rooftop solar
• 12-volt A/C
• Bluetooth sound system
• Maxxair fan
