Whether you’re a history buff, a fan of roadside oddities, or just looking for cool spots to visit, you’ll want to schedule some or all of these Pennsylvania roadside attractions for your next Keystone State road trip. Yes, some attractions are no longer in operation, yet the video keeps them alive, and they’re still interesting for roadside Americana fans to see.
Pennsylvania roadside attractions:
#7 The Coffee Pot, Bedford, PA: A relic of roadside attractions, this 18-foot tall coffee pot was built in 1927 as a lunch spot. It’s still a beloved landmark today.
#6 Haines Shoe House, York, PA: Built in 1948 as a private residence and vacation home, visitors can tour this historic piece of quirky architecture today, as it is now a museum.
#5 Giant Quarter, Everett, PA: Originally created as an advertisement for a local arcade, today’s giant metal quarter sculpture is a beloved local landmark.
#4 Gravity Hill, Bedford County, PA: Experience water flowing backward and cars rolling uphill. This unassuming stretch of road has puzzled visitors for decades. There is a logical reason for these mysteries, as explained in the video.
#3 Roadside America, Shartlesville, PA: Sadly, this attraction is now closed, although this 8,000-square-foot miniature village had been enchanting travelers since 1935. The video provides a glimpse of what once was.
#2 Seldom Seen Coal Mine, Patton, PA: Sadly, this is another attraction that has been recently shuttered. This attraction took visitors through a preserved coal mine to let them experience a little of what life was like in the old days.
#1 Trail of the Whispering Giants stop, Williamsport, PA: A tribute to Native American culture and history, the huge carved wooden totem sculpture here is part of a larger attraction by artist Peter Wolf Toth, who places them throughout the country and much of Canada.

Another not mentioned attraction is the TourEd mine in Tarentum, PA. About 20 mile NE of Pittsburgh. You can tour an 1850’s coal mine.

DW and her mom hiked a short trail that began on the opposite side of the road and included a Whispering Giant. It is quite large but fits its location so well. Have a great weekend and safe travels!
