Winter chill freezes out used RV prices – Black Book report

If winter’s chill slows you down, you’re not alone. Used RV prices took a sharp drop in December, according to the latest report from Black Book, which tracks the RV wholesale market.

December sales “a normal month” as winter chills used RV prices

We checked in with Eric Lawrence, Black Book’s specialist in the RV marketplace. Eric was quick to say he was actually relieved to see the wholesale auction figures. “It’s nice to have a normal month, where things happen as we expect,” Lawrence admitted. In fact, he admitted, “It was the most normal run-of-the-mill month we’ve had” in a long time.

Why the seeming doldrums? He pointed to the majority of the U.S., where winter got a good, solid grip on RV dealers. He points out that not too many dealers want to buy stock in winter, when RV buyers aren’t interested in spending money. Why pump money into stock, and flooring interest, just to watch the rigs sit in the snow for a few months? And so the figures would seem to back it up.

They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.

Thank you for following the vicissitudes of the RV wholesale auction market, Russ and Tina! Is this a market only open to dealers, or do individuals get to play as well? Have a great day and safe travels!
