Zion National Park officials want your input on new entrance plan

Zion National Park officials want your input. The highly favored Utah park has seen many more visitors and plenty of changes on how they use the park recently. Add in aging infrastructure, and Park Service staff are getting a bit worried. It’s time to make some improvements—with your advice in mind.

The Park Service is proposing to redesign the South Entrance area of Zion Canyon. The idea is to improve visitors’ experience “by reducing user group conflicts, improving visitor safety, and protecting natural and cultural resources,” says a Zion statement. The proposal would realign the roadway from the South Entrance Fee Station to the Zion Canyon Visitor Center.

What all is included?

What would be included in the realignment? Roundabouts, parking lot reconfigurations, and simplification of shuttle bus routes. A new vehicle and pedestrian bridge is part of the plan, and trail rerouting is also in the works. The Service believes that separating vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic will reduce user group conflicts and improve traffic movement.

Zion National Park officials want your input. To that end they welcome attendance at an upcoming virtual meeting to discuss the plan. The meeting is on March 19 at 6 p.m. Mountain Time. You can join the meeting on Zoom by using this link.

Russ and Tiña De Maris
Russ and Tiña went from childhood tent camping to RVing in the 1980s when the ground got too hard. They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.

Glad to hear they actually want input from the park users, and the public, before they make their plans and decisions.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! We were there in July 2022 and, as you undoubtedly can imagine, it was so busy that there was no available parking. So, I let DW out of the car approximately near the headquarters. She rode a bus and got off numerous times to see things. I think she spent 4 (6?) hours doing this while I dog-sat dog #2. She tells me it is an impressive place. 🙂 Safe travels! 🙂

Why no ads on the main page but opening an article causes a barrage of ads to appear.

Hi, Bill. That’s because we don’t have the staff or the time to set up two sets of every single post, or every single newsletter, for that matter. We just set up a “special” newsletter without ads on Saturday and Sunday for those who make voluntary contributions. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane
