If your tow vehicle or daily driver is a Ford SUV, it’s time to check for another safety recall. Ford has announced a new recall covering nearly 388,000 SUVs in the United States.
Recall reason this time
The latest action continues a busy year for Ford recalls. It’s already issued dozens of recalls affecting millions of vehicles. This latest recall cites a defect involving second-row seats that could increase the risk of injury during a crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the outer second-row seat switch can stick or bind. If that happens, the seat may unexpectedly unlatch, tip forward, or slide. This can happen while the vehicle is moving or during a collision, increasing the chance of passenger injuries.
How many vehicles are affected?
The newest recall affects approximately 387,911 Ford Explorer SUVs from model years 2020 through 2026. Lincoln Aviator SUVs are also named in the recall for model years 2020 through 2027.
The fix?
Ford says dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the seat switch bezel free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to begin mailing in late July. The permanent repair is expected to become available in early 2027. VINs for affected vehicles are already searchable through NHTSA’s recall database.
July? Not a good month
This isn’t the first recall to affect Explorer and Aviator owners this month. Earlier in July, Ford recalled more than 741,000 vehicles because of a transmission defect. That recall included certain Ford Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Navigator models. Dealers will update the transmission software and repair damaged components when necessary.
2026? Not a good year
Ford has also announced several other significant recalls since the beginning of 2026. Among the largest were more than 254,000 SUVs recalled in March for software issues. In May, nearly 180,000 Bronco SUVs and Ranger pickups were recalled because of a seat-related defect.
Throughout the year, additional recalls have addressed problems ranging from windshield wipers and roof rail trim to transmission and parking system concerns. Altogether, Ford has issued dozens of recalls affecting well over 11 million vehicles during 2026. (It’s a good reminder to check recalls frequently or talk to your Ford dealer.)
