Forest Service enacts fire restrictions in Lassen National Forest

It’s summer. It’s hot. And the warmer, drier conditions have increased the potential for fire activity across Northern California’s Lassen National Forest, so fire restrictions were put in place Friday and will remain in effect until the end of fire season in late autumn, reported the Red Bluff Daily News.

These restrictions will affect the use of campfires, stoves, smoking and operating a motor vehicle on National Forest System lands. Open fires are prohibited outside of designated, developed campgrounds and campsites, even with a valid California campfire permit. Designated Recreation Sites that are exempted from fire restrictions are exempted because fuel management within these areas decreases the likelihood of fires starting and subsequently transfer to wildlands.

Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle, building or designated recreation site.

Operating an external combustion engine, except a motor vehicle, is prohibited outside designated recreation sites. Motor vehicles are allowed only on established Forest System roads, trails or within designated recreation sites.

Visit the Lassen website to learn more about fire restrictions or call 530-258-2141.
