Guide to state firearm laws updated for 2020

This annual guide contains information about the firearm laws of all 50 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico, and how to prepare, carry and transport your weapons during local, intrastate and interstate travel.

It includes state-by-state breakdown of firearms ownership, semi-auto gun ownership, castle doctrine, right to protect, open carry, concealed carry, permit reciprocity, shall issue, loaded vs. unloaded, interstate transport restrictions, traffic stops, universal restricted areas, motorcycle issues, commercial trucker regulations, motorhome and other RV issues, public transportation carry laws, and preemptive local laws — plus much more information.

Common questions addressed include:
Which states…
• allow me to carry a “loaded” firearm in my vehicle?
• allow me to carry a concealed firearm with or without a license to carry?
• honor my permit to carry a concealed firearm?
• allow carry in restaurants serving alcohol
• allow open carry of a firearm while on foot

PLUS:
Which states…
… prohibit the mere possession of a handgun while in a vehicle, prevent localities from regulating firearms carry, require permitees to declare their status to Law Enforcement, allow me to carry a firearm in their state parks, guarantee my right to self-defense in their statutes, allow vehicle carry on university and college campuses, allow vehicle carry on k-12 school grounds, allow weapons other than handguns to be carried under the authority of a permit?

Also:
How can I
: legally possess firearms in National Parks and Forests; transport firearms on commercial airlines, cruise ships and trains; transport firearms through a state that prohibits any gun possession.
How do I: carry a firearm if I am an active duty or retired law enforcement officer; carry a handgun on a motorcycle?
What are the rules for: gun possession in hotels, ammunition possession in each state?
In which states is it: better to carry a rifle or shotgun for personal protection?

The book is always a best-seller to RVers, many of whom routinely carry a firearm when they travel. The book is available at Amazon.

With 50 states and therefore 50 state legislatures, gun laws throughout the USA sometimes vary monthly as each state adopts new and revised laws depending on when they are enacted per their state constitution. An annual document is hardly sufficient. I am not knocking this document, it is a great document with lots of additional info besides just the state laws. I use phone apps that are updated regularly.
The first one is: Legal Heat. Available from the Play store here:

Another one is: CCW The Concealed Carry 50 State Guide. Available from the Play store here:

It appears that there is a trend of apps going to subscription fees, either monthly and/or yearly. That being the case = no purchase. Otherwise most of us would be subscription poor. Its only option for those apps to offer a stand alone purchase, otherwise take a hike.

Just received … what I thought was the 2020 Traveler’s Guide to the Firearms
Laws of the Fifty States. Received a 2008 edition. 12 years outdated. I am not impressed and will be contacting my credit card company as this is not what I ordered.

Wow, Y.Mills! We’re sorry they sent you the old version. I was afraid we had put in an incorrect link in our article, but I just checked it and it goes to the 2020 edition. We hope you can get it straightened out and that they send you the current edition. Please let us know if you have more problems with this transaction. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, but thank you for notifying us. 😀 —Diane at RVtravel.com

What’s the latest on Good Sam continuing to be viable? I have a policy for my truck in case of problems, Have the travel assist in case we (86 & 72) have medical problems and term life insurance.

We’ve stopped traveling and for the past 3 years are Volunteer Campground Hosts for the NPS on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stay 4/5 months (Probably not this year, bummer)

Great newsletter, thank you

Regarding the Guide to Firearms Laws book. Laws are constantly changing and it is difficult for a book to always be up to date. A better alternative or at least a complement is the phone app CCW. Covers all pertinent laws and is updated very frequently.
