First, when you answer this question, be sure your spouse or partner is not looking over your shoulder. It’s very likely, we think, that he or she will disagree with you if you should dare say that you are the better driver of the two of you.
Now, we are not talking about driving or towing an RV. We’re talking about driving in general.
Let’s put it another way—Do you feel safer with your partner driving or doing the driving yourself?
Now, please!! Be objective! Don’t be afraid to admit that you are a lousy driver. Oh, we’re not saying you are, we’re just offering you some advice about how to respond in a way that does your spouse no disservice, or you, for that matter. Actually, that last sentence doesn’t make any sense, but we’ll leave it anyway (laziness).
Of course, we have no idea who you or your spouse are because RVtravel.com doesn’t track what you do on our website. We don’t know, for example, if you are in Chicago, Los Angeles, or aboard the International Space Station (if you are, please contact us so we can beg you to write a column!).
Okay, enough. It’s time to answer the poll.

I totally trust, and am completely comfortable with, my wife’s driving. She survived four years driving in the Naples, Italy area and 30 years in Albuquerque, so she’s a pretty good, careful driver.
Wife has no spacial distance capability. When driving the Motor Home, she won’t go above 45-50, she won’t back the car into the garage after scraping the drivers side on the new car. I can put my front tires where ever I want with no issues.
My wife might pick exactly the same response…
An easy answer for me since my wife doesn’t even have a license. I don’t sightsee when I drive because my attention is on the road and what’s going on around the vehicle.
Years back we were the same. But her driving scares me. So I’d rather do the hauling.
She agrees I’m the better drive in the country. I agree she’s the better driver in the city.
My wife is a good driver, but she gets less practice than I do. She will drive 1 day to my every 3-5 days.
I have never had a ticket or accident, but we have always said of my husband that it’s a wonder he lived long enough to reproduce!
I’m the better driver. I took driving lessons in high school and got my license when I was 16 years old. I am 3 years older than my husband. He didn’t get his driving license until he was 20 years old. I do most of the driving including towing our camper.
I started out the better driver of the RV than my husband because of experience. I started driving a 30ft motorhome 3 days after I received my learners permit in FL. After a 9 week family trip I was better with it than a car. As time has passed,my husband is now just as good as I am. We are full time and still am amazed how many people are shocked that I drive it as much or more than my husband
We each have our strong and weak points. I do all long distance driving and around town driving when she’s with me. We both prefer it that way. She is a good driver but is intimidated by larger vehicles. She will go to her grave with the keys to her 1997 CRV. We bought it new and despite many newer cars since, she will not let that CRV go. She says “No blind spots”.
I’m the better driver only because I do most of the driving. We travel with a 5th wheel so we have a big dually hauling it. She doesn’t like to drive it even if unhitched. At home she’ll drive herself to the store etc. but of we’re going to the same place, she’ll still want me to drive.
It depends on the situation. He’s much better with the RV and long distance driving than I am, that’s for sure. However, around home, he’s more impatient and drives a little too fast and does more “rolling stops” vs “complete stops” at the stop signs when no one is there.
If my wife is reading this, she’s the better driver. If not…..
We are ALL Good Drivers!
You don’t believe it?
You just asked us, and we responded.
That’s why we KILLED almost 41,000 people in highway accidents on roads in the USA in 2023 because we are ALL Good Drivers!
Not sure how to answer the poll. My wife drives herself back and forth to work. When we take two vehicles to go camping because we both work she drives herself back and forth to work. Otherwise I do all the driving.
I’m definitely the better driver. Grew up racing, running and getting away from the police. I have even trained law enforcement how to drive to hell and come out alive.
Thank you for the question, RV Travel! Left to my own devices, I’d say that we are equally good, different, but more or less equally safe. However, DW has publicly (i.e., in front of other people) said that I am better. So, that was my answer. Have a great week and safe travels!
She says She is. Seems I have a “Hearing Problem” too!! Yuk;Yuk;
