Walking is just about the perfect exercise. Despite it being low-impact, it’s still considered a great aerobic exercise. It can improve high blood pressure and body mass index, and can even lower the risk of health complications such as diabetes and heart disease. Plus, it’s good for your bones and joints!
And don’t even get us started on the mental health benefits of being outside in nature (but you, as RVers, already know this)!
How often do you go for a walk? And yes, a walk around the campground loop counts! As long as it’s a walk and not just a two-minute potty break for the dog. And no, walking across the grocery store parking lot, however, does not count.

I try to walk 3 miles at least 3-4 times a week but when we are on the road camping We walk every day.
Few times a week now it’s cold but warmer weather daily. The pups need their walks as well as myself.
Walk several miles every day, but only because I have a dog that needs to be walked.
Thank you, RV Travel! I probably would walk less if we had no dog. However, we do. We walk him daily at home and at least twice daily when traveling in the RV. Have a great day and safe travels! 🙂
Define “walk”
a trip to wal mart will give me around 9000 steps but you said walking across the parking lot didn’t count
at 84 it’s sometimes very hard to get started but daily I’ll get 17/2000 steps a day
I would disagree with parking lot steps not counting. Steps are steps. Anytime someone is taking steps that is better than nothing! Just keep moving.
Wife walks twice a day for maybe 5 miles. I walked twice a day for 2 miles, until health issues put a stop to it.
I don’t go for walks but I do chair exercises 6 days a week with the “Stronger Seniors” chair exercise program by Anne Pringle (2 DVDs). We do stretching on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and aerobics, weight-lifting and balance exercises on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It makes quite a difference in how I feel.

It’s been 50 weeks now since my open heart surgery, and I’m up and walking at 7:00 A.M., 3 + miles, 4-5 days a week now. I’m doing my walks around one of the local regional park/ rv campground areas.
Woo hoo!!! That’s terrific, Bill! Keep up the good work and you will have a happy and healthy 2025! 🤗 –Diane
I’m following in your footsteps..
Thanks, Diane!
👍 I don’t walk as far as you do, though, Bill. Just 1.5 miles a day. But I haven’t missed a day since January 19, when the roads were too slick for my front-heavy, rear-wheel-drive ’97 T-bird to get me safely to the track. (It definitely has a mind of its own when the road is slick.) I thought, well, I almost made it a full year. Then I thought, wait a minute. If I walk every day to this January 19, it will be a full year–just not a calendar year. Yeah! So, I’m hoping the weather cooperates between now and the 19th. Take care, and keep on keepin’ on.🤗🚶♂️ (I guess that’s a really tiny person walking.🤔) –Diane
Only 11 more days and counting down.🚶♀️➡️🤞
Just got back from my walk. It was sunny but chilly–very pretty. Have a good evening/night, Bill. 😀 –Diane
Wow! This is great news Bill! I couldn’t walk that distance anymore with the arthritis and stenosis in my lower back. Gets to hurtin’ just going around the grocery store these days. I may be back to some yard walking when spring breaks and the snow is gone – I have 1.15 Acre lot and make 4-6 rounds each nite either before or after supper…. depends on the xthr and amount of daylite. Glad to hear you are seriously on the mend. Keep it up pen pal!
Thanks Doug, I really appreciate you, and your encouragements!
Used to walk a mile or more a day but the knees and feet aren’t willing. Needed a choice…want to but can’t!
When our knees or feet are sore we try bicycling. Sometimes the lower impact lets us get some exercise. I’ve seen people with e bikes peddling continuously letting the motor do the work but still getting the joints flexed.
Oh, I remember when I could and would walk miles and hours at a time. When I see someone walking down the street, I get envious. I now get short trips around the property.
Just keep walking as much as you can for as long as you can, Kelly. My doctor told me 66 years ago (when I was 12), “No running and no downhill skiing,” because my knees were already in such bad shape. (I don’t know why that was the case.) Anyway, when my dog broke my leg a few years ago, my doctor told me that my knees were pretty bad and would probably need to be replaced “in a year or so.” Remember, that was a few years ago. The original equipment is still working, although sometimes not real well (like going up stairs) and sometimes uncomfortably. But I’m going to keep walking as far as I can (when time allows), as fast as I can, for as long as I can, with what I have… thank you very much.😉 Take care, Kelly, and have a good night.🤗 –Diane
Just happened to go to the doc yesterday for annual required Medicare check-in. One question they always ask is: “When did you last have a fall?” As always, I answer: “When I was 18.” – which I think started all of this. It only took about 55 or so years for it to catch up with me. lol. Back then I had nerve, now there’s a nerve in my back that I wish I didn’t have. Ha!
🤣 You’re always so funny, Kelly! Thanks! Yeah, I don’t follow doctor’s orders too well. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks for my first so-called “annual” physical in about a decade.🫤🤣 Take care.🤗 –Diane
I put once a day except last month gout in my knee put a stop to that
Hi, Dale. Hopefully you can get that taken care of and get back to walking once a day. Good luck.🤞 Have a good night. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Plumber. Walking in and out of job sites, Up and down stairs and hills. Called work and the exercise is a free benefit. 3 to 5 miles a day. Doesn’t count chasing our Jack Russells when they won’t come in from the yard.
