Do you spend more time in a year RVing on your own or as part of an RVing group?

When you’re out on the road RVing, do you often go with a group or on your own (with partner, family, etc.)?

Some RVers love the freedom of solo or duo travel—setting their own schedule, choosing quiet campsites, and exploring at their own pace. For them, the RV lifestyle is all about independence and spontaneity.

Others enjoy the camaraderie of traveling with fellow RVers, whether through clubs, caravans, or meetups. Group RVing can offer built-in social events, safety in numbers, and shared experiences that build lasting friendships.

Then again, many RVers fall somewhere in between—traveling solo most of the time but occasionally joining up with a group for rallies, seasonal trips, or special events. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to life on the road.

Some RVers say their preference has changed over time—starting out in groups to learn the ropes, and then transitioning to more independent travel as their confidence grew (or vice versa). Your travel style might evolve from year to year, depending on your goals and lifestyle.

So what’s your style? Cast your vote and let us know how you usually RV. After you vote, please feel free to leave a comment and explain your answer. Thanks!

We travel on our own about half the time and the other half we travel with a couple of different groups of people.

Various club rallies. But when we get there, we explore the region without help.

We full time. However, most of our traveling is to rallies with our motorhome brand group, Wanderlodge, which holds about 6-9 rallies per year.

Have a 4 day family reunion in July and a 4 day outing with our son in May. Other than that, we have a total of 10 weeks camping broken up in two week outings with about two weeks at home to do laundry, restock, and butcher the lawn. So out of the ten weeks only 8 days of that are with family. None of them can stand to stay in one spot for more than four or five days and the kid is still working. Sucks to be young.

We took a few trips with family friends but never in a group. We thought about a caravan a few times but we like to do our own thing, sometimes not even getting 25-miles in a day.

Like many others, we are exclusively solo RV’ers.

We’ve got nothing against migrating with a herd, we just prefer to do our own thing at our own pace and our own choosing. In fact, that right there is our definition of RV’ing!

Thank you for the question, RV Travel. We have been to three rallies in 7 years of RVing; one in 2018 (5 nights), one in 2022 (5 nights), and one in 2024 (0 nights because it was nearby and we stayed in our house). Our trip to Alaska and the Pacific NW this summer will be about 15,000 miles, 4 1/2 months, and solo. Have a great day and safe travels!

When actively travelling, we are mostly on our own. However, we have two TTs. The large one stays in the south as a stationary winter residence. The park is purposely aimed at long term stays (there are some short term stays) so we are part of a fairly stable group each winter.

We pretty much travel and camp on our own. We have camped with a few other rv couples, but usually someone wants to go somewhere different than the other couples, or some want to start out way earlier than the others, so we find it much easier just to do things on our own and on our schedule. With that said, we do meet up a couple of times a year for a couple of music festivals but each couple arrives on their own schedule. We do hang out together while enjoying the bands though.

We used to travel frequently with in-laws and three other couples, most of whom have now passed away and one couple skis while we are snowbirds. Often meet other couples at campgrounds and attend rallies, but travel alone.

Sorry for the delay in posting your comment, Bill. We’re in the process of updating our comment censure tool and in the meantime it’s holding some comments for no obvious reason.🙄 Have a good night. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Now widowed, but Joyce would always say “I’m Just along for the ride.”
When we retired and I would come to an intersection, turn left-turn right.
No one could follow us, as that’s how my plans were. I would just decide on a feeling. It always worked, new places and people.

Hmmm. I have never even thought about going anywhere with someone else. Hmmm.

We usually travel on our own to meet up with other people (Mostly friends we have made during earlier wandering). We have, though, traveled with a couple of tour groups.

We prefer to travel alone as we like to see things and places, most people don’t think about going or doing.
