Security cameras have become quite popular. It used to be an expensive hassle to have a home security system installed on your home or RV, but affordable, portable cameras are changing that.
It seems these days almost every house has a Ring, Arlo, Nest, eufy, or Wyze security camera or doorbell setup. They’re easy to install, affordable and connect to Wi-Fi.
Curious about your upcoming Amazon delivery? Want to know what your pup Fido is up to? Want to make sure your RV stays safe at the campground while you’re away on a day trip? Want to see the bear outside your RV’s window at 2 a.m.? Well, maybe you don’t… These cameras give you easy answers to all those questions and many more.
One RVer even used their security cameras to see what happened when their RV went in for service. (Hey, not a bad idea!)
Do you have a security camera at your sticks-and-bricks house or on your RV? Both? Neither? After you vote, please leave a comment.
If you have a camera you can recommend to other home- or RV-owners, please do! Thanks!

Home, all entrances plus backyard. RV is covered when parked.
Ring subscription price is expensive.
No but we have a couple of Chihuahuas
The house cameras also overlook the RV. We’re snowbirds, so we’re gone for 3.5 months, so it’s nice to keep track of the house whether we are home or not. The ring doorbell has also come in handy. If someone ‘rings’, you can answer it and have a conversation and they don’t need to know that you are five states away.
No, we have a 12 Gauge and a 30-06 at home.
And when you’re away???
Yes, two dogs and a sign that tells unwanted guest to get right up close to Jesus and tell him you’re right on your way. I have no patiences anymore for those that think they are entitled to snoop or break in and abscond with any of my possessions.
Inside and outside, plus alarm system. Sign of the times
I bought Blink cameras to use while I was on my solo RV trip. They worked fine. Since then our Internet has not been strong enough to get them to work. <sigh>
Think wi-fi extender.
Fortunately the current storage for our RV has power and internet. I set an inexpensive camera in front of our indoor/outdoor thermometer and monitor temperatures in our absence. I do the same at our house as a backup to the Nest thermostat.
I voted no for security but I live in a wooded area near National Forest so I do have cameras for watching wildlife and have seen some really funny animal interactions.
Not needed where we live.
When we had a house, we installed security camera system 6 years before going full time RVing. We use Blink outdoor cameras inside and outside of our RV everywhere we go (we sit for 2-3 months working in state parks as hosts. Once though, stayed overnight at a park (private) that had catalytic converters stolen earlier in the week. I sat one Blink under RV to see under truck and one under truck next to wheel (not immediately visible). Seriously considering adding a sign we have security cameras to warn bad people off. Also have Blink door bell camera on entry door and second on front of RV. Depending on how we sit for host position there is a doorbell.
