Roadtreks recalled: Some seats may not meet crash standards

1

Erwin Hymer Group North America, Inc. is recalling 1,701 model year 2013-2019 Roadtrek E-Trek, RS Adventurous, CS Adventurous, and TS Adventurous motorhomes built on Sprinter chassis and equipped with one or two second row captain’s chairs with integrated seat belts.

The seat pedestal base anchor brackets to the chassis frame may not have enough strength to prevent the seat and seat belt from moving in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages” and 207, “Seating Systems.”

In the event of a crash, the second-row captain seats may not provide adequate protection for occupants, increasing their risk of injury.

The remedy for this recall is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Erwin Hymer customer service at 1-844-464-3735. Erwin Hymer’s number for this recall is 2019-01.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).

  1. Luckily, I don’t have that model of Roadtrek, but the question arises: who exactly do you call? Roadtrek filed for the Canadian version of bankruptcy about a year ago and went out of business. Erwin-Hymer Group no longer owns it. The company has since been bought by a French company, but they have not yet hired workers back or gotten the concern going again. So what happens with the recall?
