Tips for cleaning the inside of your windshield

By Gail Marsh
Of all the parts on your truck or motorhome, your windshield is one of the most important to keep clean. Most folks have no problem cleaning the exterior of the windshield. Almost every fuel station has a cleaner, a sponge, and paper towels that will scrub the windshield’s exterior clean. However, the job isn’t done until both sides of the glass sparkle. So here are some tips for cleaning the inside of your windshield.

Can I just leave RV batteries on 120-volt power this winter?

By Dave Solberg
Dear Dave,
I’m winterizing my 5th wheel. In the past I have pulled the batteries and put them on a trickle charge in my garage for the winter. This year we have access to 50-amp service. Can I leave my batteries on board and let the shore power trickle charge my batteries? What is the upside and/or the downside? Thanks. —Dale, 2017 Keystone 3720 Montana 5th wheel  Read Dave’s answer

Removing old RV decals: “How we messed up; what we learned”

By Cheri Sicard
In this video, the Jaunt Junkies, Jesse and Kara, want to save others from making the RV maintenance mistakes that they made on their 5th wheel. The video shows a few mistakes they have made, but most of it covers the removal of the RV’s decals. Their rig was starting to show its age so they thought they would remove the stickers and wash and wax it. Not as easy as it sounds and not necessarily a good solution! Our Florida winter RV site? Canceled! And I wouldn’t have even known!

By Gail Marsh
Right out from under us, our winter Florida RV site reservations were canceled! We’d already paid our sizeable reservation fee, had been assigned our “usual” RV site, and eagerly looked forward to escaping the long, cold Missouri winter. But now what? … We made our original RV reservations more than a year ago! Here’s what happened.

Quick tip
Easy way to redirect your errant A/C drip

Use your roof-mounted air conditioner in humid weather and you’ll soon have a stream of water coming off the roof from the A/C unit. If it’s leaking down where you don’t want it to, redirect it! Pop the shroud (outer cover) from your A/C unit and you’ll spot the drip pan that catches the moisture. In the drip pan is a hole that allows the pan to drain. Usually the hole has a lip on it, like a glass measuring cup. Stick an appropriately sized funnel under the spout, hook a piece of tubing to the funnel output, and reroute the liquid to elsewhere—perhaps a roof edge gutter. If your roof is flat, an alternative to the tubing is aluminum “U” channel, carefully adhered to the roof with a sealant appropriate to your roof material.

Readers’ pet of the day

“Sunshine is my heart and soul that I adopted. She is the best dog that I have ever called a friend. She keeps me going on days I may just want to quit and retreat into myself. I’ve had other Chihuahuas but never one this special. She stays by my side no matter what I’m doing. We are new to RVing, I just bought an RV for this girl hoping it keeps her safer than hotels and such. She traveled all over the U.S. with us last year on a three-week road trip. I can’t wait to do it with an RV now. If you are looking for a best friend, then adopt one from your local shelter or rescue. I hit the jackpot the day I adopted Sunshine.” —Stacey Thrasher

Sunshine is beautiful and sounds like a wonderful dog! May you have many, many more adventures! And you are so very right. Adopt don’t shop, rescues are so worthy of your love and attention! And they give you so much more in return.

After finally getting back button working properly, now it takes me back to the beginning of the email instead of back to where I left off reading. I have a paid subscription but ads are everywhere. I may soon discontinue reading altogether.

Sorry, Woodrow. As we indicate regarding the subscribers’ editions, it is the weekend newsletters that don’t have ads in them. The Monday through Friday editions still have ads. We apologize for the misunderstanding, but thank you for your contribution. Have a good day. –Diane at RVtravel.com

I don’t know about that (I’m not techy at all). I’ll ask our IT dude, Kim, to see if he knows. Take care. -Diane

Adding a drain tube to the roof AC: IMO, this is going to increase the probability of a clog that will result in ‘rain’ inside your RV. Better hint- While literature tells you that the traditional RV frig has to be level, in reality there is a tiny amount of ‘give’. You don’t have to be perfectly level. My rig’s auto-level system has been recalibrated (see your manual) to not quite perfectly level (within roughly one degree off-level side to side and front to back). It does not take much to cause the A/C’s water to prefer going to the utility side and exiting from the back end. Make the bubble in a bullseye level just touch the center ring opposite the direction you want the water to go.

Instead of an aluminum channel for the AC drip, I used a flexible shower corner seal. I can bend it in a curve to create a “dam” for the drip. The adhesive holds it down, but I put a strip of roof sealant on both sides to make it “permanent”.

I love Chihuahuas and Pom Chis. Best devoted dogs ever. Sunshine is an apple head Chihuahua. Those dogs have a personality that makes them very devoted. I know. I can tell stories about our Kylo Ren. I have two pom chis and the 4 year old will not leave me alone. The other one is 15 and yes, keeps me in her sites. I agree. Adopt do not shop. Rescues have a lot of adorable dogs. The two I have now are rescues.

Thank you, Emily and Diane! I am very pleased for you, Stacey. I hope that you and Sunshine have numerous pleasant RV trips and adventures. Today’s laugh is also, in addition to funny, a cautionary tale that someone may see everything, so let’s take it easy and avoid ambulance rides to the ER. 😉 Have a great day, a good Thanksgiving, and safe travels!
