It may sound strange to recommend dance shoes to RVers, but hear me out, ladies. There are lots of reasons that classic dance (aka character) shoes, the kind that showgirls wear, should be in your traveling wardrobe.
Before moving into my RV for most of the year, I used to be a shoe nut. I had shoes and boots for every possible occasion, in every possible color. However, the small space of RV living simply does not allow me that indulgence.
If I carry shoes, they need to be versatile. And unless I wear them nearly every day, such as my Ugg boots in winter, they can’t take up a lot of space. Therefore, my favorite heels and platforms got left behind. As I don’t need dress shoes that often anymore, I just could not justify the space they were taking up in the small shoe cupboard in my RV bedroom.
But sometimes—not often, but sometimes—I still do dress up, even while on the road.
A practical shoe solution
I needed a practical shoe solution. It came from my past, where I spent endless hours in character/dance shoes while in dance classes and performances, and later in my work in the magic and circus worlds.
Once a showgirl, always a showgirl.
And while I am far beyond those years now, a lot of lessons learned in my showbiz days still serve me well, such as how to pack the RV, how to do decent makeup, and the wearing of dance shoes.
As a dress shoe option for the road, the shoes make good practical sense. Here’s why:
• They pack relatively small.
• They look good on everyone!
• They are comfortable to wear. After all, you are meant to dance in them. Now that I am in my 60s, those extreme stiletto heels that I never thought twice about in my youth are a tripping hazard. Dance shoes, on the other hand, are stable while still flattering.
• Dance shoes are versatile, meaning they can go with casual clothes like jeans or be dressed up for the fanciest occasions. They always look stylish.
• With neutral colors like taupe or black, they match everything you own.
If you’re traveling during the upcoming holiday party season, or if you are a full-time RV woman, consider adding these stylish essentials to your traveling wardrobe.
These are the dance shoes and styles I’m talking about.

Before retiring when I could still wear heels this was the type of shoe I always looked for they were comfortable when I had to spend about 6 hrs on my feet Alas when in my teens I ran a lot while wearing heels almost this high. Take note, the writers at DC comics, who wrote Wonder Woman, were obviously men. They showed Wonder Woman running in heels. I did so much damage to my feet I can’t wear ANY kind of heel anymore
Dancing is not the same as running
