Take the weight off your RV water hose and power cord with this easy trick

If your RV is like most, your city water inlet is conveniently located on the side of your rig. Convenient to you—not having to stoop down to hook up the hose. But once in place, the weight of that water-filled hose tends to pull down and put excessive pressure on both the hose fitting and the RV inlet port. The same is often true where power cords “lock” into a fitting on the side of the rig. All that weight can lead to problems. Here’s an RV water hose weight support mod that takes the weight off cords or hoses.

Take the load off with an RV water hose weight support

You can thank Chuckie Rudziewicz for this clever mod. He’s a Facebook user who apparently ran into this problem with his rig. But instead of letting the issue just run on, Chuckie got it in his mind that there had to be a way to take the load off.

Many RVers use 3M’s “Command Hooks” on the inside of their rigs to hang stuff. The mod here uses a different 3M Command product—“Broom and Mop Grippers.” In Chuckie’s installation, he used the peel-and-stick mounting system directly to the side of his rig, strategically close to the ground. Since the grippers are said to be rated up to four pounds, a couple of feet of hose or power cord shouldn’t pose a problem.

But will the stickers stick around?

Some Facebook readers were concerned that sometime down the road (of time or distance) those peel-and-stick stickers might unstick. True enough. Depending on the build of your RV exterior wall, you might consider adding a screw or two for added reinforcement. If you do, be careful about what might be behind the area, and be sure to use a sealant to prevent water intrusion.

And yes, sharp-eyed readers, Chuckie obviously needs to get up to speed on his power cord maintenance. But the damage here may be attributed to too much weight yanking down on the cord prior to the mod. But with his clever mod, this might never be a problem again.

You can find Command Broom and Mop Grippers here on Amazon.

Use a double ended hose connection 90 degree elbow. No hooks to come loose;
from a Plumber.

I have used these hangers for brooms in our bouncing RVs. I like this use. Hopefully they will hold up to rain and wind on the highway. I already have 90s for both water and power. They take the weight off the hose and power line ends but do little for the weight on the RV side of the connections. I’ve got a couple more broom holders coming. FYI- I am expecting I will also need to add the rubber parts to my annual rubber conditioning chore.

Most of the problem with a straight in hose connection is the fact that the hose sticks out about 6-8 inches putting more strain on the connector. A 90º elbow allows the hose to support itself.
As far as the shore line, they should all come with a 90º trailer side plug like the one on the pedestal plug does.

We use a 90 degree adapter on the hose, along with a pressure limiter. And I’ve never seen any sort of stress on the power line. Is this a solution in search of a problem?

I also use those for holding small flashlights. I can put them wherever needed and it also makes me remember to put them back.
