Tour the 2024 Airstream Pottery Barn Special Edition 28RB—Stylish but no cargo carrying capacity!

In the video below, Patrick Botticelli from New Jersey’s Colonial Airstream takes us on a tour of a much-anticipated new release, the Airstream Pottery Barn® Special Edition travel trailer, a unique collaboration between the two iconic brands.

The trailer in the video has a queen bed, but know that the Airstream Pottery Barn® Special Edition 28RB is also available in a twin bed version.

Because it is the Pottery Barn version, you get some nice accessories like the outdoor furniture and the “party ledge” that hooks onto the kitchen window to provide an exterior bar.

I love the look and the functionality of the kitchen. There’s a huge stainless steel sink, enough counter space, beautiful cutting boards, and a built-in trash pail. For appliances, you have an 8-cubic-foot, 12-volt refrigerator, a 3-burner Furrion cooktop and an oven with the option to upgrade to a convection oven.

The dinette features a fully adjustable table and, of course, it converts to a bed.

I like the layout with a split bath in the middle and the rear bedroom, as it really creates privacy for the bedroom.

The Pottery Barn-designed bedroom is both beautiful and functional. It features wraparound windows and a huge amount of underbed storage.

Overall there is a ton of storage in this trailer. The problem is, the trailer probably does not have enough cargo carrying capacity to fill it unless you are filling it with down clothing or something similarly lightweight.

More nice features of the Airstream Pottery Barn Special Edition 28RB

The Airstream Pottery Barn Special Edition 28RB does have a lot of great features, including some that are not included in the non-co-branded versions of the trailer:

  • Two 100ah lithium batteries
  • 300 watts rooftop solar
  • 2000-watt inverter
  • External solar port
  • Stainless steel rock guards
  • Awnings on both sides and the back
  • Tinted tempered-glass windows
  • Composite flooring
  • Enclosed underbelly and heated tanks
  • Power stabilizer jacks
  • Tankless water heater
  • Flip-up desk by the sofa
  • Outdoor shower
  • Wireless backup camera
  • Goodyear tires
  • Fusion Bluetooth stereo system

What’s not to like?

While it does aesthetically look elegant and beautiful, for me, the colors, especially on the upholstery, are way too light. RVing is nothing if not dusty, dirty, and even muddy. If I owned this trailer it would look like a mess within minutes. And if you have dogs, forget about it!

Also, the cargo carrying capacity at under 1,000 pounds is low, especially on a 28-foot trailer. I would far rather lose an air conditioner and gain some cargo weight.

I also don’t like that the bathroom sink dumps into the black tank, although it’s not a make-or-break issue for me. While I like the mid-coach bathroom placement, you do sacrifice shower space. This one looks mighty cramped.

If you weren’t stuck on Airstream, you could buy a brand new diesel pickup (NOT RAM!) and a 28′ something and be way better off. Just sayin’.

Airstreams are primarily status symbols rather than practical traveling units. So, this one is no surprise. Load carrying capacity is truly a joke!

Thank you, Cheri! Yes, 1,000 pounds of CCC is just too little. I guess you just tow it between campgrounds with no food or water (adding that stuff at each stop) and keep most of your clothes in the truck you pull it with. Certainly not ideal. 🙁

Wow! $171,000+ is a lot of money for 28′. However, Airstream is a lot of trailer and I am sure that is MSRP subject to wheelin’ and dealin’. Perhaps a major consideration would be the re-sale value vs every other type and mfgr of Rv’s. Airstreams are worth a substantial part of their original cost. An outstanding reputation as well. While the 775 CCC is a little lite, don’t forget all the stuff that is already included – like 2 AC’s – in 28′?, tables, bedding, etc, a lot of stuff you would have to add and deduct from CCC.
