Scamp, the iconic fiberglass trailer manufacturer, just came out with a new model. The Scamp Lite is a pared-down, bare-bones version of the classic fiberglass trailer that weighs just 1,250 pounds. In the video below, we get a tour of one from the team at Scamp Wanderlust.
To be sure, the Scamp Lite lacks a lot of amenities that other RVs and even other Scamp trailers offer. It is essentially a step up from tent camping in a cute fiberglass-encased package that can be towed by almost any vehicle. And the large enclosed bed is certainly more comfortable than most tents.
With a choice of six different external colors, it’s head-turning and aesthetically pleasing.
What’s not to like?
I have never been (nor will I ever be) a form-over-function girl. I realize this is a bare-bones trailer, but there is a lot of wasted space. For instance, bare walls where there would normally be storage cabinets. At least put in a rack system for hanging cabinets like in camper vans.
There are no kitchen facilities at all—no fridge, stove, or oven. No running water, either, meaning no sink, shower, or toilet. And most surprisingly, no furnace! When I factor all that in, the price doesn’t seem all that great.
There are also not a lot of windows, so I have to wonder if it does not get claustrophobic in there. Take a look at the video and let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

The Scamp appears to be a storage shed on wheels.
$16,000 for a fiberglass box on wheels. That’s a lot of money!!
30 amp service for what? It also shows a propane bottle on the tongue both in the video and the floor plan. ??
I pulled a small pop up tent camper with my motorcycle for over 20 years. King size bed off the ground, 26 cubic ft of under bed storage and a 6X6 dressing/sitting area. 10 minutes to set up.
I wired a 20 amp shore line that was sufficient for a ceramic heater.
My thoughts exactly!
You can see the waves on the Wallpaper above the Vent in the video.
won’t come close to fitting my current needs (wants?) Forty years ago, yes but I didn’t have 15K forty years ago. A tent (small) suited my needs great. I think a pop up might be better. More room. I understand keeping things light, inexpensive etc., but I wouldn’t’ want it with out an awning. There just simply is not enough room inside, without a outdoor space
For the same money (~$15K), you could get an all-fiberglass Braxton Creek Bushwacker + 15DS. Then you would have an indoor kichen with sink, propane stove, microwave, and fridge, AC, dinette/queen bed, and a DRY bath with fresh, gray, and black tanks, 30A power, and a torsion axle suspension system. And it can still be towed by many SUVs and small trucks!
No, this camper is not worth the price. Who sleeps on the ground anymore in a tent? I sleep on a large cot. No stove? Who wants to cook? You go on vacation and find a place and eat out. That is called a vacation. Color? really? Who wants to pay 15k for the color?
I would have some interest in this type of camper but for the price I could stay in a hotel every day for a year. It needs to be $9999.
Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 Yes, I agree, not much here, especially for over $15,000. It is cute, but the function is slightly more than having a picture of it and the picture would cost more than $15,000 less. I will not inhibit anyone else from buying this by getting in their way. I will wander elsewhere instead. Have a great Independence Day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
