Fifth wheel oven malfunctions, burns pizza and then RV

A propane stove malfunction led to a fire that engulfed a fifth wheel trailer this week at Crazy Horse Campground in Lake Havasu, Arizona, witnesses reported. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze.

The RV was parked in a lot near the northern shore of the island formed by the relocation of London Bridge. The owner alerted authorities about the fire around 7 p.m. Three fire engines, a truck company, and a battalion chief from the Lake Havasu City Fire Department responded to the scene, bringing the fire under control within 30 minutes.

“It was a faulty propane stove,” said RV park employee Richie Hunter. “The owner was cooking a pizza, the stove overheated, and blew up. I heard four explosions — probably the propane tank and the tires. The RV was in flames by the time I got there. We shut down the water and power to the RV immediately.”

If the oven overheated it sounds like a faulty thermostat; or the temp. was set too high….. I hope no one was hurt. I appears the owner called the fire dept. so must have been out or got out. Hope so. Always be aware with propane on board and don’t rely on the detector(s); use your nose and common sense.

I have a lot of questions on this one. Maybe, just maybe the pizza went into the oven and the cook passed out…. I mean, tires exploding while the cook didn’t smell something burning, like maybe the pizza he put in the oven before one last hit off the bong…. and turn the oven off?

Maybe this is a cook malfunction and not an oven malfunction? Lots of follow up questions.

According to the Crazy horse group site, the owner and his wife had gone out to dinner and weren’t there when the fire started. A neighbor knew they had a dog and got it safely out of the rv. Makes me wonder which story is accurate.

Thank you, RV Travel! I wonder how all the discovered facts fit with each other? Lots of scenarios can be constructed that incorporate the facts presented here and in the comments, but there are too many gaps still. Perhaps we will have a follow-up that reconciles the divergent facts. Have a great weekend and safe travels! 🙂

The stove overheated and blew up?
I am not a fan of our RV propane stove, but something does not circle this square of an article.

Insurance should have a good time with this one…

Do we know the make of the unfortunate 5th wheel model that burnt up?

The latest update from Crazy Horse group site now says the owner was home using the stove when it malfunctioned(blew up) but he safely got out. No mention of him having a dog.

So they went out to eat and the dog stayed behind and made pizza?
