We’re guessing the amusing YouTube short video above is from the Wandering Routes channel was made as a joke as the caption reads: “Me after ‘winning’ a fight in the RV with my wife.” But is it a joke?
The video description also claims that sometimes the extra space in the RV’s basement really comes in handy. Presumably for when one partner is in the proverbial doghouse.
Now, both of these statements might be meant as jokes. But, honestly, some of the slide-out trays on those larger Class A diesel pushers and motorhomes are plenty big enough to comfortably sleep on.
And the platforms in them certainly support enough weight to allow someone to sleep on it. In fact, most of them hold enough weight that a couple of people could sleep on them.
So, the next time you need to sleep extra people when RVing, know that this method could work in a pinch. Throw down a portable mattress and you have a place to sleep an extra person.
However, I have to say that if it were me, I would really need to keep that door open, and the slide partially out like in the video. Not only is it a safety issue, but it could potentially get both stuffy and claustrophobic inside with the door closed. Also, that sliding metal tray resembles those in morgues a little too closely for my comfort.
What do you think?

With so many Gigantic RV’s having multiple slide outs, perhaps it is time to go down to sleep in lower compartments and raise the roof for a patio.
What’s wrong with reversing the tables?
I don’t have enough room in all of my basement storage compartments for a raccoon to sleep in there let alone a human!
I told my wife I was glad we didn’t have a compartment big enough in our Class C. She said “can we make room somewhere.” 🙁
Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 Certainly we have traveled light enough to have an empty storage-bay tray. We have also lain on them when cleaning the storage bay area beneath them when they are not extended. Funny video though. Ours are carpeted too, and the seals tight enough that the carpeting typically is clean. Thanks again, have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
This type of arrangement happens all the time in Mexico. It is common when buses arrive from the big cities to the coastal towns. The passengers disembark and head to their hotels. This leaves the baggage compartments empty. The bus drivers never leave their coaches and probably don’t get paid for lodging expenses. They sleep in the basement baggage compartments!
It would be my concern where this marriage has gone and think it is probably on its way out, because of the huge disrespect.
I think he was being facetious, Bill. Looking at their YouTube channel, they look like a pretty happy family. Have a good afternoon/evening. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
