Warning to stop using recalled expandable hoses immediately

If you have an expandable hose stashed in your RV’s basement storage or hooked up at your site, take a second look—especially if it’s a HydroTech brand. More than 3 million of these popular garden hoses are being recalled after reports of bursting and related injuries. This expandable hose recall may affect you.

29 people injured–leading to expandable hose recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a nationwide recall for HydroTech Expandable Burst-Proof hoses, after 222 reports of them unexpectedly bursting during use. At least 29 people have been injured, including sprains, a bone bruise, and even temporary hearing loss from the loud noise.

These hoses were sold between January 2021 and April 2025 at major retailers including Ace Hardware, Amazon, Home Depot, Target, and Walmart—both in stores and online. Depending on size and model, they cost anywhere from $20 to $136.

The problem? According to the manufacturer, the hoses can rupture under pressure, creating a sudden impact hazard. That’s a serious concern for RVers who rely on gear that can handle campsite use.

What RVers should do

  • Stop using the hose immediately.
  • If you bought it at Ace, Do it Best, Home Depot, or Walmart, you can return the whole hose in-store for a full refund.
  • If you bought it somewhere else (like Amazon or another retailer), you’ll need to cut off the end with the metal regulator and contact Winston Products, the manufacturer, to claim your refund.

To get the refund, you’ll need to submit photos of the cut hose, showing the date code location with the consumer’s initials and the date written in permanent marker on the regulator. Get the form on Winston Product’s website here.

RVers know that reliable gear is essential on the road. Don’t take a chance with this one—check your hose before your next hookup.

Not all the expandable hoses are in this status. I’ve been using the Pocket Hose Silver Bullet brand (the drinking water safe version) as my static supply line for several years.

Thanks, Jim. Yep, this recall is just regarding the HydroTech Burst Proof[!] Expandable Hose. (Emphasis added.🙄) The recalled hoses are listed on HydroTech’s/Winston Products’ website. Have a good afternoon/evening. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

I purchased a 3/4” , 50 foot, green color hose from Walmart from this company. Being I did register it on their website site they e mailed me about this recall. They specifically called out the 5/8” hose and to look under the hose gasket for specific numbers or no numbers as the recalled product. There was an e mail address to respond to for further information which I tried to ask about the 3/4” product. The automated response came quick that they would review my inquiry. Nice hose so far unless it explodes. Good reason to fill out those warranty cards,

Thank you for the warning, Russ and Tina! We have two such hoses, both at home, and both by different manufacturers. Have a great day and safe travels!
