Build a hidden RV storage step with Ross from RV Tips & Travels, one of the winners of our 2024 RV video awards. Ross shares a useful DIY project in the video below that will help you put otherwise wasted space in your RV to practical use.
Ross says this project provides more storage in your RV bedroom, where it is often at a premium. It will also help you get in and out of a too-tall RV bed.
He also mentions that underbed storage is often difficult to access, so this storage step solves that problem for items you need to access more frequently.
The video starts with a trip to Lowe’s for some 3/4-inch pine. Ross picked pine to build his foot locker step because it is lightweight yet sturdy enough to stand on, and it stains well.
Then he measures the space next to the bed in his 5th wheel bedroom. The storage step will sit in this otherwise wasted space.
Watch the video. Despite being under seven minutes long, Ross shows all the steps you will need to do to duplicate his useful RV storage step.
Let me know if this is a project you decide to take on. We’d love to see the results.

This is a great idea (assuming you have access to a table saw)! Short spouse, high bed, extra shoes. What’s not to like?
When I built a “dog step” in our bedroom, I took it a little further and included a false bottom with a hidden magnetic latch. It provides a secure space to store laptops, cameras, and other valuables.
