Winnebago recalls some motorhomes for inadequate lights

Winnebago Industries is recalling certain 2017 Brave, 2019 Itasca Sunova, 2019-2022 Adventurer, and 2022 Sunstar motorhomes.

The front turn signals may have a smaller than required luminous lens area. As such these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

A small lens can make it difficult for other drivers to see the turn signal, increasing the risk of a crash and injury. As many as 1,446 RVs may be affected by the recall, which was issued March 23.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the non-compliant turn signal lights with new lights that comply with Federal Motor Standards.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 1, 2026. Owners may contact Winnebago Customer Care at 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago’s number for this recall is 203.

Thank you for the news, RV Travel. Sadly, the headlight requirements for RVs are far too low, given my experience with them. Given the weight of an RV, the headlights illuminate far too little of the roadway ahead of it if one should need to stop unexpectedly and the speed limit be greater than 35 or 40 miles per hour. Have a great day and safe travels!

You would think that someone building out a motor vehicle would have invested in a copy of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards

That was my exact thought. An rv manufacturer that has been building rv’s for decades and doesn’t know the Federal requirements for safe lighting.

I would think there should be a fine for not following regulations. Maybe that would wake them up and therefore fewer recalls.

This recall is for the front turn signals! not the headlights.

A lot of these lite assy’s. are sourced from foreign countries who can claim whatever – as long as they work. A mgfr buys in good faith to later discover the item isn’t quite up to specs. OR the lites were to spec when installed but have lost reflectivity or brightness due to sun/xthr exposure. If they had been Made in America they would most likely meet the long term/exposure specs..
