My husband and I converted a Ford van years ago. We purchased a simple panel van and proceeded to transform it into a comfortable travel vehicle. (This is not a project for the faint of heart. My breath still catches when I think about cutting into the side panels where we wanted windows.)
Nostalgia aside, seeing the Highpoint NS van by Sequoia + Salt brought back great memories. I think this RV would be excellent for the person who still wants to travel but no longer enjoys pulling or driving a huge rig.
Small changes, big results
The Highpoint NS featured in the video at the bottom of this article differs from the company’s original Highpoint. First, the customer wanted to change the bed orientation so that a traditional queen mattress fits with a bit of space on either side to allow room for a CPAP or a phone.
Secondly, they added windows—larger side windows and two back windows. This, in my opinion, is an excellent idea, making the interior much lighter and brighter, which I love.
The Highpoint NS also incorporates soft storage on either side of the bed—another nice upgrade. I also like that the convection cooktop can move to the outside or be used in the drawer mount, leaving more countertop area for prep.
The builder
Sequoia + Salt LLC is a custom camper van builder based in Manasquan, New Jersey. The company makes the Highpoint NS along with other conversions. It emphasizes custom builds and off-grid-ready systems.
Target buyer
RVers who want a shorter, easy-to-park conversion that still feels roomy will be drawn to the Highpoint NS. I feel it’s a good fit for couples or solo travelers who prioritize a full-size sleeping area, practical storage, and independent power for boondocking.
Buyers who like a comfort-first interior (memory-foam mattress, soft-close cabinets, a convertible lounge) but don’t want a giant Class A or multiple slide outs will find this layout appealing.
You’ll also note that the buyers decided against a toilet installation in favor of more storage. There is an outdoor shower; however, I’d be concerned that shower overspray might dampen the sleeping area. A toilet may be essential equipment for other RVers.
What sets the Highpoint NS apart
Sequoia + Salt markets the Highpoint as a “comfort-first” build that still packs off-grid hardware into a compact package. Instead of squeezing a small bed against a side wall, the Highpoint’s layout prioritizes a full-length sleeping area arranged front-to-back for more comfortable sleeping.
The company also pairs that layout with a relatively robust power system and campsite-friendly touches so you can stay out longer without relying on hookups.
Quick, practical considerations
This is a custom conversion on a Ram ProMaster 159-inch chassis, so you get the drivability, garage-fit advantages, and city-parking ease, while sacrificing none of the living-space niceties that the company installs.
Because it’s a custom shop build, final pricing will vary with choices and add-ons. You can expect a premium for quality finishes and off-grid capacity. If you plan cross-country travel with extended boondocking, double-check final battery/solar sizing and A/C use with the builder.

- Reported A/C runtime: The company claims the 12V Dometic A/C could run up to roughly 20 hours under specified conditions. Actual runtime will depend on battery capacity, solar input, ambient temperature, and A/C cycling.

Everyone seems to like using the Ram Promaster for their choice in a mini motorhome, but I have a problem that no one addresses. The small cab up front. I am 6’4″ tall, with the seat all the way back, when I turn my head to the left, I see the wall, not the glass on the door. it would make for dangerous driving !
