Do you keep your RV stocked year-round or empty it after every trip?

Think about your last trip: rolling back home, tired but happy, ready to unload… or maybe not! Every RVer seems to fall into one of two camps, and today’s question gets right to it: Do you keep your RV stocked year-round, or do you empty it after every trip?

For some of you, keeping the RV stocked just makes life easier. Your toiletries are already in place, the kitchen gear is right where you left it, and your favorite blanket is waiting on the bed. When the urge to hit the road strikes, you can be out the door in minutes.

Others swear by the clean-slate approach. Everything comes out after every trip so nothing goes stale, forgotten, or mysteriously sticky. This group likes to start fresh each time, restocking only what they need for that specific adventure.

If you’re someone who enjoys that “reset” feeling, an empty RV might be your happy place.

Then there’s the practical side: climate, critters, and storage. If you camp in hot or humid regions, clearing out food and toiletries might save you drama later. If your RV stays at home, keeping it stocked might feel safer and more convenient.

If it’s in storage, emptying it might just be common sense.

So what about you? When you wrap up a trip, does your RV stay ready to roll or get stripped down until next time? After you vote, feel free to share your system. Thanks!

Doesn’t apply if you are full time……

We have 2 TTs, a large stationary unit used about 6-months on/off, and we have a much smaller unit we use both for the semi-annual migration and adventures in between. For both, non-perishable (including freezable and heat tolerant) items like gear & toiletries stay. Our big unit also has clothing left in place. When unused for more than a month, tanks are flushed, water lines blown clear with RV anti-freeze in the traps. AGM (aka maintenance free) batteries are placed on maintainers (AC or solar). As both units are mechanically well maintained, it doesn’t take long to become operational.

Clothes and the reefer are emptied every trip and everything is removed when the MH goes into the Barn for the winter. Don’t need anything to attract mice left in there.

We remove perishables. Everything that is left in the RV is stored in rodent/pest proof containers.

We are able to use our MH year-round here in CA so we restock our non-perishables upon return from a trip. This way we only need to load the refrigerator & a few other food items when we are preparing for our next trip.

We keep it stocked with non-perishable and clothing. We use it year round but it’s also our emergency evacuation vehicle. When parked at our home base it’s in a climate controlled building and powered with a 50 amp connection.

Too hot during the summer here to keep it fully stocked. But can be ready to go within a couple hours.

There really isn’t any good option for full timers.
