Today’s thought

“Remember, remember, this is now, and now, and now. Live it, feel it, cling to it. I want to become acutely aware of all I’ve taken for granted.” ―Sylvia Plath

Need an excuse to celebrate? Today is National Vinyl Record Day!

On this day in history: 1851 – Isaac Singer is granted a patent for his sewing machine.

How to find RV dump stations while traveling

By Gail Marsh
Traveling in an RV offers the ultimate freedom—no hotel check-ins, restful sleep in your own bed on wheels, and the ability to cook your meals anywhere. But with that freedom comes the responsibility of managing your waste, and that’s where RV dump stations come into play. Whether you’re a seasoned RVer or just starting out, you need to know how to find RV dump stations while traveling.

Below is a list of resources for finding RV dump stations along your travels.

Keep your generator fuel fresh—or do this!

By Russ and Tiña De Maris
For us, it was a lesson hard-learned. Keep your generator fuel fresh. We thought we did. After all, we frequent hot country in our RV, and don’t much care for RV parks. That means to keep cool, but avoid shore-power hookups, our portable generator gets a thorough running. Trouble is, it’s those off-travel times. We paid the penalty for the schoolboy’s lament, “I just didn’t think!” Learn from Russ and Tiña’s mistake.

Sip in Style: Say goodbye to flat fizz, bugs and spills with these clever can lid gadgets

By Gail Marsh
I sighed as I poured out another fizzy drink that’d lost its fizz. Grandchildren often opened a can of soda or other fizzy drink, took three sips, and hastily slid the can back into the RV’s fridge. If the can miraculously managed to remain upright, it lost its fizziness within hours. Flat soda and other carbonated drinks would then find their way down the RV’s sink. Or, more often, the soda can would tip over and spill. Then I had a really sticky mess to clean up. There has to be a better way, I thought.

Quick tip
Preserving RV tires in hot weather

Dennis K. made this helpful comment regarding Roger Marble’s recent post on tire covers: “I live in a place where the daily summer temperature is 110+. Even with covers and in full shade, the tires are way hot. Years ago I started removing the tires on my trailer and storing them in the air-conditioned garage when the trailer was not in use. My tire life went from an average of 18 months (without a tire separation) to 6+ years, when the tires aged out.” Great idea, Dennis!

??  MYSTERY PRODUCT OF THE DAY  ??
What kind of deranged mind thinks of a product like this? Really? Come on! You mean people would buy this? Oh, and the description. (Ya think maybe written by a bargain-priced copywriter in China.) Here goes: “Funny spoof gift spoof tricky artifact suitable for gifts spoof tricky excellent as a funny gift for an silly office party or even as a joke to your friend or family. Banana S’mores

by Bonnie Hawkins from Atascadero, CA

What a delicious twist on a classic s’more. Using mini chocolates makes building the s’more easier and lets you choose what type of chocolate you’d like to use. Adding sliced banana is pure genius. Banana and chocolate are the perfect marriage of flavors. The roasted marshmallow melts into the chocolate and banana for s’more heaven.

Trivia

The three most popular (or common) birthdays in the U.S. are September 9th, 12th, and 19th. In fact, September is the most popular birth month.

We use Sta-Bil in our fuel for all small engines. Our new generator instructions say to shut off the fuel line to shut off the motor to keep the carburetor clean!

Never tried Startron, but I’ve found Seafoam to be better than Stabil…also more expensive.

We have experienced 7 of the 10 listed scenic drives! One we will never do (Key West); not sure at this point we will get to the other two listed. We have also experienced incredible highways in BC, Alberta, and Ontario, plus a number I could list outside of North America. We have been very fortunate to see much of the world. The travel bug is still alive and well within us!

Personally I prefer the Cassiar highway in northern BC having driven it several times to avoid the cluster fox trot on the Alcan. A fishing hole almost every mile.

The Cassier Highway is top on our list of scenic highways on the way to Alaska. Unfortunately, the camping areas are getting a little too popular.

I was looking forward to Dustins “

Sorry, hit send too soon on my previous post…. “looking forward to Dustins Moryde Suspension systems review”. I thought the word review meant the pros n cons and do they truly deliver what’s promised. In reality the whole article looked simply like an advertisement for Moryde with all the typical marketing jargon. I am wondering who actually wrote it?

Mor-Ryde is an excellent system as the article states. I seldom crow about RV products but this system works.

Ive been a long time subscriber to this and your other publications. Since all of the ad pop-ups, I can hardly get pages to load. Pages stay blank, eg The Poll. I have a brand new lap top and hi-speed WiFi (so its not an equipment issue).

The Firefox browser has a new feature that I’ve tried on RVTravel and it works great for me. It eliminates pop-up ads and makes it easily readable. It looks like a little page icon at the end of the firefox address bar next to the star and will toggle back and forth between pages with and without ads.

I wonder how many of the miles in todays laugh are trips to restroom.

Rather than those concrete rivers try the canoe trip down a part of the Crow Wing river in the Huntersville/Nimod area of west central Minnesota. (Park Rapids/Menahga area). There are several state campgrounds along the river spaced at a days trip for tent camping. Research canoe outfitters. They take you to the starting point and about 5-6 days later you put ashore at their facility. Altho there is a small limited store stop – bring all your provisions. (Don’t forget to take all your trash out too!)

Like the weather report feature. On another topic, I often wonder who chooses the thought for the day, since so many of the people quoted lived, as did, for example, Sylvia Plath, tragically dysfunctional lives. Surely there must be sources who lived wisely and well.

To make the best Smores buy flavored marshmallows and a good graham cracker. Then buy a good chocolate bar not the cheap hershey crap. Seriously. You want a great Smore? Invest in it a little bit. I also bought a Smore kit that you can make over a gas stove. Really well done. Problem is its just me. So after just one? I am done for the month. Now I am ready for some home made cookie dough.
