How to fix sticky RV windows

By Gail Marsh
If you’ve been RVing for a while, you might have heard a sticky RV window’s shiver-inducing screech or squeal. I’m talking about windows that refuse to slide, latch smoothly, or open easily. Here are some ways to get your RV windows working smoothly again—whether they slide, use a latch, or are emergency push-out windows.

Sliding RV windows are convenient, but after a while, they can begin to squeak or become difficult to open and close. Dust, dirt, and travel road grime can be the culprits. Here’s how to get them sliding smoothly again… Continue reading.

ADLAR truck campers by Soaring Eagle: Low cost and simple

By Cheri Sicard
If you are looking for a simple, lightweight, no-frills kind of truck camper that won’t break the bank, you might want to check out this video from Josh the RV Nerd. In it, he shows us two Soaring Eagle ADLAR truck campers, the 6.5 and the 6.5XL. Josh says these truck campers are a rare find in that they can actually safely fit on most half-ton pickups. Also, for a low-priced truck camper, these are well-made with an all-aluminum frame. That’s right—no wood, no rot, no rust! Continue reading.

Replaced RV’s on-demand water heater; why no hot water in sink?

By Dave Solberg
Dear Dave,
I just installed a brand-new Girard tankless water heater in my RV. The original Girard produced way too much hot water. The dealer said it could be a number of things, so I just put in a new heater. All is good except I can only get cold water in the bathroom sink. Shower and kitchen sink are fine, having both hot and cold water, but not the bathroom sink. It’s so frustrating. Any ideas? —Jeff, 2017 Jayco Greyhawk 31FS Class C motorhome  Read Dave’s answer.

extreme off-rod recovery 5th wheel sliding down a hillsideExtreme off-road recovery—5th wheel slides off a mountain trail

By Cheri Sicard
Get ready to join Matt McKinzie for an amazing off-road recovery rescue that happened when a large 5th wheel slid off a steep mountain trail. The driver could not make it up the mountain, so he tried to drop the 5th wheel. As soon as he disconnected from the tow vehicle, the rig slid and ended up precariously perched with nothing but a dead tree stump keeping it from careening down a 200-foot hill. Fight RV crime! Install a GPS tracker in your RV—It’s easy!

By Russ and Tiña De Maris
The opening image is just a handful of stolen RVs we posted here on RVtravel.com in our Saturday newsletter. For every one we wrote about, there are probably dozens more that we didn’t hear about. Suffice it to say, crooks want to steal your RV. The question is, if they do, how can you get it back? One way that can increase the odds of finding a stolen RV is by installing and using a GPS tracker. Learn more.

Simple ways to keep paper towels and TP from unrolling

If your paper towel holder is mounted horizontally, the roll might unroll itself while you’re driving. Here are a few tips: Wrap a bungee cord around the roll during travel or use a spring-loaded clothespin to hold the end in place. Tony G. suggests cutting an old washcloth in half, placing it under the holder so it drapes across the roll to add friction. Wolfe Rose offers the simplest fix for paper towels or toilet paper: “Just squish the roll slightly to make it off-center, and it won’t unroll until you pull it.” Thanks, Tony and Wolfe!

??  MYSTERY PRODUCT OF THE DAY  ??
Know someone who likes to fish? Hubby, maybe? Grandkids, maybe? Yourself? Good. Everyone who likes to fish will love this. All ages, all genders, all everyone! Well, except the fish… They won’t like this.

And the survey says…

We’ve polled RVtravel.com readers more than 2,500 times in recent years. Here are a few things we’ve learned about them:

• More people communicate via text messages every day, 56 percent, than they do by phone call, 22 percent. (The other 22 percent communicate both ways about evenly.)
• 60 percent use an electric toothbrush.
• 34 percent read in bed every night.

Recent poll: Do you return to the same campground/RV park each year?

Trivia

The Lady in Red—Tonopah, Nevada’s resident lady of the night—lived in a luxury suite on the fifth floor of the Mizpah Hotel. Murdered by a jealous lover in the hallway just outside her door, she’s Nevada’s most famous ghost. Stay in Room 502 and see if she pays you a visit—you’ll know she did if you find a pearl on your pillow.

Still getting a newsletter packed with ads with my paid subscription. Numerous video ads prevent legit videos from appearing – please correct this (second request).

If you’re like me, you’ll get a second notification from RV Travel around 1PM. That is the ‘subscribers issue’ and is clear of ads, if they bother you.

Funny. We’re paid subscribers (both wifey and I) and we don’t get a 1pm notice.

Thanks. I only get one notification. This issue only recently began – in the past, I never received an ad-laden newsletter.

Hi, John. We’re sorry you’re having issues with our newsletters. Your account history shows that you’re being sent the two subscribers’ weekend editions of the newsletters. Those newsletters shouldn’t have any ads in the actual newsletters. However, when you click on a link to read an attached article, those individual posts will still contain ads. It also shows you’re receiving the RV Daily Tips newsletters, which do contain ads. In any event, video ads should not prevent legit videos from appearing. I’ll check with our IT dude, Kim, to see if he has any idea why that’s occurring. I, myself, have not heard of anyone else having that problem. Thank you for your patience in the meantime. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Thanks, John. Here’s what Kim, our IT guy, says (after I asked him if clearing your cache might help): “I’m not sure clearing his cache would help. But we should at least mention running an anti-virus check just to be sure. I’m not sure what platform he’s on, but there is ad malware on both Windows and Android. Mac’s and iPhone/iPad not as much. Ad malware inserts ads on top of whatever you’re looking at and they make money with clicks. It’s usually hidden in something like a ‘speed booster’ or ‘privacy’ app or browser extension. They sometimes even market them as anti-virus tools! Anyway, it’s likely it’s a bad actor on Raptive and any screenshot would help us tell Raptive what’s going on. Without screen shots, there is literally nothing we can do, no reference point for Raptive to investigate. Raptive is really responsive to complaints.” (Raptive is our ad management company.) Again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience, John. I hope Kim’s suggestion about running an anti-virus check works, or that you can send in a screenshot to editor(at)rvtravel.com so Raptive can track the culprit down. Good luck! Take care. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
