Tip of the day
Don’t trip the breaker. Colored sticker dots save the day

This post was approved by electricity expert and veteran RVer Mike Sokol.

One of our readers sent this in and we think it’s a great quick tip. Here’s what George has to say:

colored sticker dots

“Take small colored sticker dots (pictured above) and put one on each outlet that corresponds in color to a dot placed on a breaker in your electrical panel. Continue reading.

Ask Dave
WFCO inverter panel was locked up. Here’s what fixed it

By Dave Solberg
Dear Dave,
I was reading a few of the articles you have written in RVtravel.com. Very informative. Thank you for your insight, Dave! I was wondering if you’ve seen an issue like this, which I am having with my new WFCO 5318 inverter control console. The inverter works fine but the display is all on and gives no status—like a locked boot-up. I’ve tried removing all power from the rig with battery disconnect, and removing from shore power, but to no avail. Any ideas? Anything would be greatly appreciated! —Paul  Read Dave’s answer and the follow-up.

7 reasons to RV in Quartzsite and 3 reasons not to

By Cheri Sicard
Every winter scores of RVers flock to Quartzsite, Arizona. In the video below, Bob Wells from Cheap RV Living gives seven reasons why he thinks it is a good idea to go to Quartzsite in the winter, and he does recommend it. Ever the realist, he does balance out the advice with three reasons why a visit to the RV mecca that is Quartzsite might not be right for you, as well. Click here to watch.

Visiting Deadwood Mine and its mysterious vault. Was Geraldo Rivera here?

By Dave Helgeson
Idaho’s Deadwood Mine is this month’s Ghost Town Trails ghosted place. I chose to feature the Deadwood Mine, not for its extensive remains, fortunes mined or past residents of interest. I chose the Deadwood Mine for its ornate and large vault. This is very interesting.

Quick tip
Shoe holder does new tricks!

From reader Mary C.: “I hang a plastic shoe bag with 24 compartments designed for 12 pairs of shoes on the inside of my motorhome bathroom door to contain miscellaneous necessities like batteries, cosmetics, grooming items, medical supplies, etc. Everything is in clear view and immediately accessible.”

The best glamping in the USA
We know we’re not all big “glampers,” but even just seeing these amazing tents kind of makes us want to give it a try and ditch the ol’ RV for a night or two…

??  MYSTERY PRODUCT OF THE DAY  ??
We would absolutely pay money to sit and watch a group do this at a campground. We’d cry with laughter!

And the survey says…

We’ve polled RVtravel.com readers more than 2,500 times in recent years. Here are a few things we’ve learned about them:

• Most voters, 57 percent, mostly drink water throughout the day. 25 percent drink the most amount of coffee or tea during the day, and 7 percent drink mostly soft drinks.
• 33 percent have flown in a small, private jet.
• 71 percent would pick 90 degrees F over 40 degrees F.

Recent poll: Do you use solar panels to power your RV?

Trivia

Polar bears have black skin and, nope, they don’t have white fur. The bears have two thick layers of clear fur that appears white to the human eye.

Readers’ pets of the day

“Oscar (Collie) was picked out for me by my DIL from a working dog family in MT. Sadie (Heinz 57 terrier mix) was adopted from a ‘nursery’ in Las Vegas. They jump in the truck every time I open the door, thinking we are going somewhere. I let them sit in there while I clean or work on it, and then I have to entice them out. We spend over six months a year in the RV. I couldn’t imagine traveling without them.” —Vanessa Simmons

Send us a photo of your pet with a short description. We publish one each weekday in RV Daily Tips and in our Sunday RV Travel newsletter. No blurry photos, please! Please do not submit your photo more than once. Thanks!

Hi, Lynn. Just go to RVtravel.com and search for “save space” or “organize”. You’ll find dozens, if not hundreds, of articles. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

I agree. I live in a small Class C and almost none of the tips are applicable to me. Unfortunately all of the writers have large RVs, so they write about what they know. I wish there was a contributor in a smaller RV.

Hi, Pat. Did you notice what I mentioned to Lynn about finding probably hundreds of articles on our website regarding saving space and/or organizing in an RV? I’m sure a lot of those tips would be useful for any size of an RV, including smaller ones. Have a great day. 😀 -Diane at RVtravel.com

Maybe this is an impossibility for technical reasons, but imagine the experience readers would enjoy if readers could attach photos in the Comments sections of the newsletter.

While I have wished for the same thing, being a realist, it is not likely to happen – am I correct Chuck & Emily?

Photos require much more storage space (and therefore money) on web servers. Second, they require far more sophisticated ‘sin and morality’ filters to determine objectionable content. Notice you can submit images for ‘today’s pet’ and ‘questions to writers’? Not all that are sent appear on the site, and they have been filtered by human staff.

I have been on other sites that don’t accept files, but will take IMG location strings that link to a photo source, like Flickr. The picture shows up, just like if it was posted as a file, but the full storage cost isn’t, like a file. I’m sure the process to link isn’t cost free. Also, if the person who posted alters or removes the picture from their photo storage app, it disappears from the post since the photo site assigned a different IMG string. But, it works pretty well.

I belong to numerous sites that allow pictures to be uploaded. One of the biggest problems is with the size of the pictures taken with high resolution cell phones and cameras.
Most people do not know how to shrink the files. Some are actually full page and take forever to load. This also means the server has to save these huge files.

I am not in favor. I don’t need to see anymore pictures of people’s dogs. I chuckle at the term “fur babies”, implies intimate relations with an animal.

I’ve been seeing the same thing, but different ads. They cover about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the screen. It’s been going on for weeks. Only way to keep them away was to use my VPN, but then I couldn’t leave a comment or see the reader poll. Over the past week they have finally disappeared. Maybe time will take it’s course and yours will go away too.

I really like today’s tip using dots, but… Such stickers tend to dry and fall off when the rig is stored in hot locations.

When I upgraded my service panel, I labeled all the receptacles corresponding to the breaker that fed them. I used a Brother P touch label maker. Self adhesive and laminated labels. That was 7 years ago and the labels are still intact.

Hi, Luanne. We know someone with lots more cats than that, otherwise they would have been euthanized. Thank goodness there are some people who are able and willing to take care of, and love, multiple cats at one time. Have a good night. 🙂 –Diane at RVtravel.com

In keeping with today’s theme, upon retirement in 2020 we checked out a lot of areas in western AZ. Bought a lot in an RV community in Quartzsite. We set up a nice outdoor kitchen and use the crockpot to make Birria, Barbacoa, Chili Verde, etc.

Hmm..

“Trivia”: Polar bear hairs are “clear” but appear “white” to the human eye. If the hair appears white to the human eye, what kind of animal’s eye does it appear clear to? And how does that animal communicate that observation to humans?
