“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” ―Jane Goodall

Need an excuse to celebrate? Today is National Darts Day! We love playing darts! Do you? If so, you’ll love this!

On this day in history: 1889 – Hyde Park and several other Illinois townships vote to be annexed by Chicago, forming the largest United States city in area and second largest in population at the time.

Have a loose screw? Here’s how to fix it

By Dave Helgeson
I suspect most RVers have a screw loose, and I am not just referring to our questionable mental state of white line fever traveling the country in a house on wheels. The interiors of most RVs are constructed of wood: wood cabinets, vinyl-covered wood paneling, etc. Most also contain cabinet framing with photo-wrapped wood. Basically, it is a picture of nice-looking uniform wood grain wrapped around what is often a piece of soft, inexpensive pine.

If you have a loose screw on a cabinet hinge, the odds are it is the side of the hinge screwed into the cabinet framing. The soft grain of the pine doesn’t hold the screw as well as the hardwood the cabinet door is made from. If you have a cabinet screw loose, it typically won’t do any good to tighten it as there is no longer any solid wood under the photo wrapping for it to bite into. Continue reading.

Clasica: A new, lightweight, vintage-style fiberglass travel trailer

With many lightweight campers, low weight often means no standing room. Furthermore, vintage charm often means old-trailer headaches. The brand-new fiberglass Clasica travel trailers go after both problems at once. The trailer has a 1970s shape and a much simpler approach than most small trailers of today, but has modern amenities. That mix is what makes it interesting. Check it out.

ChafestickNo more painful chafing
Long travel days, summer heat, and hours behind the wheel can make skin irritation miserable—but this little stick helps stop chafing before it starts. Toss it in your RV, purse, or glove box for quick relief anywhere skin rubs, from thighs to waistbands, bra straps, to sore feet in walking shoes. Learn more or order.

Meet the woman in her 80s who built her own ProMaster camper van

Kate had already spent more than 20 years RVing when she built the van she loves most. Now in her 80s, she downsized to a 136-inch-wheelbase Ram ProMaster called Zip, and the smaller rig gave her more freedom, more comfort, and a stronger sense of being alive. Her story isn’t only about a van build. It’s also about getting back on the road after serious health problems. She talks about it in this article and video.

Quick tip
What you didn’t know about bananas

Many banana lovers are quick to toss the strange stringy bits that emerge when peeling the fruit, but maybe they shouldn’t. “Phloem bundles” are perfectly edible and nutritious. They are essentially tubes that pump the sugars and other products of photosynthesis to wherever they are needed. A banana’s skin, though tough and bitter, is edible and rich in several key nutrients. A good way to avoid wasting banana skins is to place them in water for a couple of days to allow some of the nutrients to steep into the water, making it an excellent drink for indoor plants.

Pssssst: Like bananas? Then here are some recipes for you!

Monday Motivation

“You’ll seldom experience regret for anything that you’ve done. It is what you haven’t done that will torment you. The message, therefore, is clear. Do it! Develop an appreciation for the present moment. Seize every second of your life and savor it.” ―Wayne W. Dyer

Trivia

Don’t peel apples: The skin contains up to 50% of the total nutrients and roughly two-thirds of the antioxidants. Apples are often held in commercial cold storage for months. Long-term cold storage can decrease the fruit’s total phenol content by up to 50% in the flesh. Locally sourced, freshly harvested apples are always more nutritious than those shipped globally out of season.
