Tesla recall – Doors can unlock in crash

Another Tesla recall. Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Model S and X vehicles. The cabin doors can be unlocked during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, “Side Impact Protection.” An unlocked door may unlatch and open during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. 120,423 vehicles are included in the recall.

Remedy

Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 17, 2024. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla’s number for this recall is SB-23-00-009.

Recall notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

How come the big, red RV RECALL leader? Didn’t know Tesla made an RV.
Why is this even in RV travel.com?
Don’t other manufacturers have occasional recalls too? How come you don’t list each of these? And how many of the others can be fixed without a visit to the dealership or a shop.

Hi, Bill. We don’t have a “Featured image” aka “leader” at the moment for recalls in general, but we may have one soon. This particular recall is on RVtravel.com because some of our readers (RVers) have Teslas. We do list other manufacturers’ recalls, if we think enough of our readers might be affected by them. But you are correct: Most of them have to be repaired at the dealership or in a shop. However, they are still recalls, no matter how they are repaired. Have a good night. 🙂 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Thanks for the response Diane .. I have a late model Honda and was just made aware of the recall involving 2.5 million Hondas .. and it may take 2 or more years to get them all back to the dealerships plus the fact the repair pieces (fuel pump) are not available in quantity. The Honda is a toad though, so I guess this is RV related.

You’re welcome, Bill. We’ve had a couple very recent posts on Honda recalls: https://www.rvtravel.com/honda-recall-rvt-1136b/ (2.5 million) and https://www.rvtravel.com/honda-cr-hybrid-recall-short-lead-fire/ (106,000), as well as a Toyota recall: https://www.rvtravel.com/toyota-recall-air-bag-woes-rvt-1137b/ (1 million). Plus, we list trucks, Jeeps, and anything else we think might be relevant to our readers. (Gotta spread the joy, you know.😜) Have a good night, and a very happy and healthy 2024! 😀 –Diane

BTW, Bill, I’ve changed the “Featured image” (what you called the leader) on a couple of the most recent recall posts which weren’t regarding RVs, now that we have a different image we can use. Thanks for the nudge to get that done.🤗 –Diane

Thank you, Russ and Tina! I see that, ideally, doors should stay shut during a crash, so staying locked has great value. Similarly, doors staying shut after a crash may have value. However, it seems desirable that they also become unlocked after a crash ends to make the job of rescue workers easier.
